My ‘Enigma’ dressing room at the Adelphi
A candid look at the behind-the-scenes world of a megastar mentalist. What goes on before the curtain goes up? Where is all that make-up applied? Does he insist on a thousand white lillies to be placed into his room before each performance? And how revolting are Coops’ feet? These and other questions are answered in this stunning short film which explores the video facility on the new iPhone.
PS Yes, I’ve learnt that I should rotate the camera ninety degrees. Yes, yes.

Loving the “behind the scenes” scoop… Thanks!! incredibly jealous at the fact that it was recorded on the new iphone! couldnt get an iphone cos i live abroad so had to go for the nokia e71 instead!!! but at least i finally managed to get a macbook! – although i would seriously injure coops if he damaged my baby…. (yes, all my gadgets are my children!) good to know that all creative ppl like ourselves are mac addicts! 😉
keep up the amazing work… enigma was mind-blowing in oxford!

Spot on Stewie Griffin impression…the producers of Family Guy ought to have you do some voice work for them, maybe as Stewie’s good side? I have to say that compared to the American “Stars Of Stage and Screen” contract riders I have seen on the smoking gun website, your dressing room looks much like an ordinary hotel room. I think this is a travesty. A star of your magnitude should have hot and cold running personal pleasures at his beck and call at all times. Plus where is the encourage? Those dozens of people whose job it is to affirm every silly whim, and see that it gets done…yesterday? Really Mr Brown, for someone who is able to get people to do his bidding , seemingly effortlessly, this type of accommodation is making you seem just like a regular guy, and not the international superstar with a following in the millions. Where is the Caviar? Where is the Champagne? Where is the Valet, the bodyguard, the errand runner, the gorgeous looking eye candy to satisfy your every desire? Clearly Mr Brown, you have not yet learned to have the proper Star Ego and the obligatory arbitrary demands prior to performing..please try and follow the wretched excesses of our American Stars and their demands of odd numbers of expensive flowers, bowls of candy with specific colored pieces removed, and for goodness sake you simply must insist on more than one dressing room. I would be happy to give you more examples of how to do wretched excess in style, if you would like.
ps…. loving the stewie impression… stewie is just my all-time fav cartoon character! he can make pure evil sound soooo cute!

All the best people love Freddie! And family guy, haha… perfect impression 🙂
Evidentally there’s no end to your abilities 😉
.
Does Coops have to walk out backwards (with bare feet) all the time as punishment for denting your Macbook air? or is that some theatrical thing like that mentioning that scottish play? 😛
.
Best of luck (not that you need it) on the rest of your tour D.

Peace People!
Ah that was great thank you muchly!
Btw, best Stewie impression EVER!! 😀
For those that are concerned, the Sanex Dermo Sensitive (banishes body odour whilst letting skin breath. Dermatologically tested, with 0% alcohol, it contains lactoserum, an ingredient rich in milk proteins and gives greater care to delicate skin…) is gender neutral. Use of this product, in moderation, will not make you any more (or less) gay…
Hehehe that’s one of the best Stewie impressions I’ve heard – love it!
Nice dressing room too – hope the aircon works in this rather lovely but rather toasty weather we’re having!
no one seems to mention the fact you appear to walk though a ‘mirror’ at the end…
i take it coop left through normal, back in through ‘stage’ door and waited till the end to slide it accross?
How lucky are you to have such a lovely and authentic theatre chair…really impressive!
Haha, nice video ^ ^
What a detailed tour of your dressing room. Loved the Stewie impression 🙂
You sometimes wonder what the rooms are like that the stars have to get ready in.
Thanks Derren. xx
Derren you are so funny. You should be on stage…….
EXCELLENT stewie impression. Loving the theatre coat hooks the most x
Phillis darling sweetie..you should not have lent derren your steamer.. You know it’s going to be full of goatee hair and hob nob crumbs!! How are you now going to clear your pores on your face.. Ahem.. It was for your face wasn’t it??!! X
Have I told you I love you?
*lol* Loving your humour as always, although I thought your dressing room is a bit bland – and as for the fridge, come on!
xx
i wanna sit on the uncomfortable sofa…..and eat all the afte reights!!!!
can I, can I can I????
I have to say that I found reading everyone’s comments on here just as funny as watching Derren’s video! Certainly brightened my day (after being informed today that I need to have 2 bloody fillings at the dentist!)
Wow, how big is that dressing room? The rooms I’ve always seen at the theatre never look big enough to swing a mouse, let alone a cat! But thankyou for such an in depth look around, it was most insightful. And so damn funny, you never fail to make me laugh, Derren. 🙂
Good luck with the rest of the shows and keep smiling.

Bless him he does love his iPhone doesn’t he. Coops looks adorable. I know he probably isn’t, but he looks it.
An enigma dressing room huh? Are you the riddle in it?
I’d like to restate what nonphixion mentioned earlier: Why does noone mention the fact that at the very end Derren appears to walk through a mirror? Does noone notice it’s impossible for him to be in the final shot?
It’s a great and subtle trick, I love it!
This was absolutely brilliant! Derren, you are a lovely, lovely, and very funny man 😀
But I do agree with Kiri – you ought to be recycling.
Gosh, the mystery is now gone. Poor Coops, Derren – you should get down on bended knees, wash and massage his poor feet, then give him an after eight mint, and a kick. Great Stewie impression, now everyone will want to hear it backstage. National portrait Gallery is great, fantastic entries, I love seeing how other people paint. Hope your dwessing woom has air conditioning, but if not, you could always get Coops to fan you while you sit on the comfy sofa and film him doing something funny and cringeworthy – Yay Coops.
Ordinary shoes, theatre chair. Love it!
So funny. loved it and what a great stewie sounded just like him.

You forgot to tell us how to get there! Thousands of us would love to sit on either sofa and help you drink the wine. 😉
HAHA derren, really is quite different from stage derren.
haha @ the stewie impression and the theatre sink, theatre hooks.
LOVE IT!
Ah, I finally see of who the coops reminds me of these days … a dutch guy .. giel beelen .. although coops seems a little less slushed than giel … so it’s not an identical twin … but they have something in common… (I dont know either of them in person so that can make an enormous difference, it’s more the system they put out and facial structure in this case). Giel seems more soft, and def. not a skater.
And the hair is back I see … All other stuff about coops will be/has to be done by the younger people. That’s not my area anymore …. ehehehe ….
Completely OT, but hey … he WAS in the dressingroom for a moment …. in case Derren gets jealous (LOL!) … all this attention for Coops nowadays ….
Ah, kindred feet !!!! We are soul mates …. my feet match yours …. mine are dirty too …… but we are so clean from above … it’s the dirt that surrounds us, our pure souls ….. how can we live on this planet between these … creatures … and all that dirt ….. Skating is not such a bad idea therefor.
Nice film. Is Coops the guy you had taking photos at the show?
P.S, I’ve just been eating Sainsburys After dinner mints, they’re yummy too x
Derren, Ive also picked up myself a wee new iphone they are so great – Download this wee gem off itunes, paper toss

Very funny : )
Thanks for the bin demonstration.

Love the comb holder . I want one. I don’t have a comb but I still want one! Looking forward to the show tomorrow ( Thursday 2nd) I’ll be in stall seats f23 24 25 if you want me! It’s my dream! don’t ask me to throw anything! Tried that once before. It was bad! I’m a rubbish thrower! See you tomorrow 🙂
After eights? Now I was expecting black magic. tut
Cheers
Rob
Have to say that is the best Stewie impression I have ever heard!!!! It’s pretty damn amazing!
Waste of plastic cups though, shame on you 🙂
Underneath it all your just a lovely, regular chap Mr Brown – thanks for letting us see behind the scenes, I thoroughly enjoyed your company!
P.S. looking forward to my signed Amy Winehouse print 🙂 xxx
Good luck with the remainder of the tour!
Wow Derren, Loved the stewie impression! Thanks for the inhouse tour!
@ Pieter:
I see what you mean – at 4:10 Derren walks through a doorway, turns around at the end & is facing a mirror – maybe it’s just as simple as a mirror being on the back of the door?
If the skateboarding PA had one OUNCE of dedication, he would have cushioned the Airbook with his own body…rather like Charlie Rose saved his airbook with his face:

ALL YOUR MINDS ARE BELONG TO US…
What you going on about Derren? Is it a new idea?
I’ll have a go…
ALL THAT YOU KNOW IS WIDGET
BIGGER THAN A FISH
Loved the show in Oxford….
OOh, very nice dressing room, the fridge needs more cake though!!
Much more glamorous than the dressing room in Grimsby, lots of cold meds & cold manky pizza boxes!!
Stewie impression, Very impressive!!!
More Vids like this please!!!!!

HEHE, would like to see a video of the ‘twigs & poo’ application next time!!

@those mystified by the mirror: I think it’s actually right next to the door. Could also be on the door itself, but it’s a bit wide for that — it would leave no room for a doorknob, I think. But to me, it just looks like it’s between the two doors (make-up area door and the one Coops disappeared through).
Hello Derren Brown,
I have recently been to your show at Adelphi theater and I loved it so much and thank you for putting out this fantastic show.
I was one of the lucky audience and was called to your stage for your last trick. I got this number sticker from the show and I kept it hoping that I would get your autograph on the sticker after the show but I did not get a chance. I would love to have it framed.
Is there anyway that I will be able to get your autograph? I know that you are very busy but I would very much appreciate it if you could help me.
Thank you very much.
Masa
Masa: Derren doesn’t seem to read these blog replies very often… maybe you’d be better off mailing Coops or Phillis (the ‘about’ section has email addresses).
Thanks Derren for the insight, Hope to see other behind the scenes. By the way, I got your special dvd from my beloved today for my birthday look forward to watching that! xx

Bloggers did you not know Derren uses a bin, and i quote “for throwing things away” & ” a steamer for steaming”, lolz
Thank you for stating the obvious Derren, we may not be quite as intelligent as you but I can assure you that we all have grasped the basic concept of what a bin is used for, and a steamer for that matter, lolz.
Loved the Stewie impersonation, really made me laugh out loud.
Keep up the good work Derren 🙂

Went to experience Enigma at Adelphi last night. Amazing! Met Derren at the back door with some of you other guys and dolls from this delightfull blog. A wonderfull night. Thank you Derren and your crew. Awesome!!!!! Got to compliment Derren on the Messiah. Mission accomplished 🙂 I can return to Copenhagen.
For the first time in my life I am going type LOL and actually mean it :-D. LOL!
Liked that very much. Very nice dressing room and a particularly nice looking showbiz bin there.
Coops you dirty boy, get some soap on those paws.
xx
Just got my MacBook Air and it is splendid!! You just can’t help but start writing a book with one of these things on your lap. But Apple does make them a bit delicate no doubt on purpose so that you must buy a new one in two years.
PS – More gadget reviews please.
Berber Anna: don’t be too sure of that ….. maybe D’s responses will not always be there were you would expect them to be … he’s watching …
