Lazy days
Two sublime, silent days resting in Dublin. Euro-less, I have not left the hotel (except for the show), but awoken late, taken breakfast at the end of the allotted time or in my room, and shuffled everywhere in my slippers at one-third speed. I have been reading Thomas Mann, drinking honey and lemon, barely existing in a kind of limp reverie, quite at odds with the spirit of this vibrant, rowdy city, whose inhabitants pass by on the other side of the hotel windows with the augmented velocity of characters in a silent movie.
As Ash Wednesday lingers over us, we are forced to take an impossibly early ferry tomorrow morning in order to get to Cardiff to build the show. Last night’s Dublin audience was delightful: surprisingly less rowdy than Thursday’s, although I imagine that tonight’s will prove a force with which to be reckoned.
Rested to the the point of inconsequence, I must dig deep to summon the necessary energy for tonight. Perhaps a quiet little stroll.
Please take care dear Derren and I really do hope you get better soon. XXXXXXXXXX
Great show in Dublin last night, can’t stop smiling thinking about it!
Yeah, yeah, drinking ‘honey and lemon’, bet you’ve been drinking Guinness, and now you can’t leave the room because of a hangover….anyway enjoy..
Sounds like you need to get outside. Best wishes for the rest of your tour.
Glad to hear we didn’t put too much strain on your ability to deal with rowdy Irish people. It was a great show, and the five of us who went loved it. Hope your throat starts healing up soon!
Glad to hear you’re well rested. Have a good show tonight, and enjoy the stroll. What I wouldn’t give to meet you randomly on the street…
Good boy resting up! hehe Have an awesome show tonight!! Hope you get a good nights sleep for that early start, dont envy you one bit! Bloody inconsiderate volcano!!
Take care
x
Hey Derren, I hope despite your voice you are enjoying Dublin, I thoroughly enjoyed Thursday’s performance and can’t wait till your next tour, have a great show tonight!
You should try doing some linguistical programming around the city. I’m going to the show tonight, hope it’s good. Best of luck.
When u coming back to Newcastle upon Tyne PLEASE Derren. Its a real struggle to get tickets to see u!!! Go on man…come back up to see us all in geordieland ! Xxx
Aww I feel for you Derren. As I’ve been suffering from flu all week I know how I’ve hardly had the strength to stand let alone do anything else. So you have my admiration that you’re battling through what ails you so’s to not let anyone down.
Please take care & get yourself well real soon.
Love
LC x
Oh and get well soon…I seem to recall u had a sore throat when u were up north too…all the very best hunni x x
Bless you and your little slippers! Id be sick in your place if i could. Went to show during the week in Belfast was BRILLIANT!! We were at the wed show so i didnt get to meet you after, I was physically distraught and had a day of lamenting on thursday. Im counting down the days until you return as we speak. Really hope you get better soon so others dont miss out too! Sorry to hear this awful act of nature has resulted in you having to get up at a ridiculous time and possibly worsen your condition…very thoughtless and insensitive id say. Keep knocking back the lemon and honey 🙂

Your quiet, comfortable, elation at a lazy day mirrors my own today. I too am enjoying a bit of a lazy day. What better way can there be to spend your saturday when u work away from home than walking by the sea. Am a bit short on pennies as I just bought my first car so my options are limited but rather than this being restrictive I find it quite freeing. I’m just across the water from u and decided to spend this glorious saturday walking by the sea. I was quite a way on when I just decided to sit, where I had previously been stood. No bench in site, I just wanted to sit and look and smile. And so here u find me, drinking in, because for the first time in my life that is what it feels like, the air, sun, smell of the sea and sound of the waves. Enjoy your lazy days DB, u deserve them. Jo
Romantically written Derren….
Enjoy the air ‡—›
I’ve been so late in posting, didn’t reply to the Milton Keynes post like I should have, naughty me.
I felt that the audience during the second part of saturday’s MK show was.. Somewhat unpleasant. They kept laughing at the wrong things, and were especially rude rowards one volunteer that made me quite grumpy. Either way, seeing the show was an experience that I shall never forget.
My fiance (“You’ve done this before!”) and his little sister briefly met you afterwards, I have Social Anxiety Disorder and was hiding away at a distance just watching which was quite sad but.. Lovely, lovely experience.
You’re all that I hoped for and more. (Though my fiance regrets not kissing your hand.)
Best of luck bringing yourself back to life, Derren, you’ll do another wonderful job.
x Nathan
Hope you feel better soon Derren! x Saw you in Milton Keynes last week and still can’t stop thinking about it, amazing! xxxxxxxx<3
Hope the rest has worked a trick (so to speak). Have a safe trip to Cardiff tomorrow and if I see you randomly on the street on Monday I shall politely wave from a distance 😉 However, all being well I shall be sat in the front row on Monday night with my slightly scared sister 😆
Get well soon Derren, I’m still recovering from your Edinburgh show back on the 1st. You are amazing!!!
Coming to see you on Monday in Cardiff so for the love of God please do not sink.
I was there last night, thank you for an amazing show and ever the showman you didn’t even mention your sore throat. Thank you again and chuck a few frisbees near the front rows tonight!
Get well soon. It’s a pity that I couldn’t take autograph from you 🙂 I went to two ENIGMA shows in a row (two days ago and yesterday) and have to say – it was worth it ! different people were taken on the stage, with different stories.. it’s amazing how you’ve **SPOILER REMOVED*** 🙂 please say hello to Jenny as well ! she is doing great job during the shows ! 🙂
Thank you so much for a wonderful show last night, you had my friend beside me in stitches and it was a brilliant precursor to the Trinity Ball (you were better than it was, though, definitely!).
Hope you have enough energy for when you record your last show! Better be darn good when everyone watches it in tv!
Anyhoo, no pressure.
🙂

Absolutely phenomenal show last night, loved every minute of it!! You’ve got great charisma and humour. You walked behind me to get to ***SPOILER REMOVED*** and I was over the moon to have got to be so close to you, however weird that may sound. The ending was simply superb. Please come back again! xxxxxx
Hope you are feeling hale and hearty this evening, I’m going to the show tonight!
I’ve been avoiding firends who went on Thursday and Friday, so they don’t give anything away.
Hope you are feeling better soon.
Great time last night – Derren you were even better than I expected, well worth seeing looking forward already to next tour.
Glad to hear you are resting well! X
take care, we don’t want a poorly Derren x
Awww! don’t do too much and get plenty of rest! It’s a bit like me and my shoulder at the moment, so I sympothise with you needing to rest. Enjoy your shows! And take care. It was amazing to meet you in Edinburgh and I hope you liked the pic I gave you 🙂

uhm.. this is a bit off topic but i’ve been watching derren’s shows on youtube for a few weeks now and i’m fascinated by his works.. specially hypnotism.. and im just wondering if any chance i could hypnotize a person using other language..
Would just like to send a quick apology for my lack of punctuation in my last message. I was using my blackberry and it took 3 attempts to send as it kept saying “invalid Spam password”. As a result I had to type it 3 times and, reading it back, I have realised I had apparently forgotten commas existed!

Lucozade with Berocca in it = Happy days!
Ohwwwh, hope you don’t forget your fruits and sleep (rest that is aka no internet) and sunshine fcourse!

amazing show last night, get well soon.
Hi Derren,
I hope you are enjoying your tour in Dublin. I was at your Thursday show and I cannot stop discussing it with my Boyfriend who came with me. I was so excited to see you live; I was like a buzzy bee all day waiting for 7.30 to arrive. I loved every minute of your show I am so glad I went to see it. I will be thinking about this until you visit Dublin again.
Have a safe journey back to England. Thanks again for providing the most wonderfully constructed show for us to enjoy. It truly is an honor to see you live,
Ellie (and Gerry)
The image you’ve painted of yourself over the last few days I find to be so comforting. You have an unmatched way with words. I’m glad to see your retreat both from twitter and from the other stresses of life for time being; Few people work as hard and as long as you do.
ahhh, derren…sounds like you’re finally just where you were always destined to be. may you forever relax in the arms of your luxurious repose right to the very ends of the earth. it’s you.
LH&S,
roz
Hey Derren,
Just want to thank u for one of the most amazing nights of my life in Dublin lastnight! Hope u feel better soon and hope u come back to Ireland in the future, a showman of ur standards is hard to come by these days! Here’s to spending the rest of my life trying to work out pretty much everything u did lastnight!
All the best, ur #1 fan,
Wayne 🙂
Good to know you’re taking it easy between shows. I had a nice walk along the quay in Dublin on the way to your show last night. Again it was truly remarkable. Thank you again. It’s amazing how the much the show plays on your mind. Take care and rest that voice
Sounds wonderfully restful and something to be savored. Hope you have a good show and a calm crossing tomorrow.
Just seen the show at the Grand Canal. Outstanding! I am a huge fan and have seen all your shows but was blown away. Would have loved to get an autograph but saw your sign at the stage door. Can’t wait for next tour!
Derren,
Went to your show in Dublin on Thursday. Loved it! Great show and great venue. Looking forward to your next one here.
Hi Derren, totally amazing and absorbing show tonight by a master of his craft. ***SPOILER REMOVED*** STUNNING!! Safe journey to Cardiff and please come back to our shores on your next tour.
Dear Derren and Coops,
thank you so much for Friday. Vulcan is over the moon after meeting you and we are buying a new deluxe magician kit tomorrow . You are truly inspirational not only as a talented performer and an illusionist but as an amazing person as well. I can only imagine Vulcan looking back at his early years when he grows up and remembering this meeting as one of the most magical and important moments of his childhood. Thank you for setting such a great example of magical excellence and self-expression. DVB IS THE BEST.
Lots of love,
Marina and Vulcan
Derren, clearly your head is in a ‘good space’. Its strange how Mother Nature will sometimes find a way to force us to focus on just ‘one important’ thing at a time instead of juggling twenty thousand things at once. My head however is finding life on this planet harder to understand with each passing day….. volcanic cloud cover, employers making ‘every single member’ of staff redundant and now a friend of mine who is a teacher tells me he is being ‘assessed’ by his own students…its official… the lunatics have taken over the asylum.lol
So glad the tour is going well
Sue x
You sir are a legend. The rest of us magicians can but aspire. Complete showman. Top notch. I doff my hat to thee good sir.
Hey Derren,
Last night was my first time seeing you live. You lived up to every expectation I had of you and more! It was so funny when we went back to the Hotel last night because lots of people were talking about Whitney Houston and the the terrible performance they had just seen . I was so happy to be able to go on and on about you and the amazing show you had just put on. I think you’ll have a few Whitney fans at your next show! lol
Thank you so much for coming to Ireland. Safe journey for the rest of the tour
Susan :o)
