you’re just a legend, and if some of you have’nt seen ENIGMA yet….. GO SEE IT, absolutely AMAZING
thanks derren for so much entertainment and hurting my head thinking about your shows!!!!
best wishes
Hello
I wonder what would make more money:
winning the 2 million jackpot, or making a show about how he could have won the 2 million jackpot?
Yeah, I know, maybe it wasn’t about money etc etc etc.
But, just a thought.
I think I’ve got it figured out… Derren is finely aware of the Brownian motion produced in a lottery draw machine and can figure out where each and every particle of every ball is going to be an hour ahead of the draw.
Simple.
I just wish they’d used ping-pong balls like the ones Derren had… would make the draw a lot more exciting!
Well done mister. I don’t know how you did it but it was good.
@ Hoops, yep he was on the news and radio in Ireland this morning as well.
Did anyone else see the Gorilla?
Quite extraordinary!
Many thanks for putting the video up so fast. I’m in the Arabian Gulf but I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
Love the name change btw – darlin’ if I had balls you’d be welcome…
well done derren. And thanks phillis abeo for getting the blog up and running again.
Awesome, in the actual sense of the word. DB you did a great job, can’t wait for Friday!
Well, I’ve got to say I was disappointed with it last night. We were told he would predict the lottery results minutes before the live draw… how would he do it? broadcast delays? time travel? actual magic? ooh… exciting. But then he came out with that line “we’re not allowed to reveal our lottery predictions before the BBC for legal reasons so I’ll have to show you my prediction after the live draw” At that point I felt utterly disheartened and cheated. So his ‘predicted numbers’ became the drawn numbers only after the live numbers were revealed, which is just boring trad magic, the type of thing paul daniels used to do every night. I was expecting hypno voodoo cleverness from mr brown.I’m sure he’ll dress it that way in the reveal show but cynic in me thinking meh.
Never doubted it for a second.
We knew you would get it bang on. Well Done Derren!
That was brilliantly nail biting, you could see how chuffed you were once you had revealed the numbers- big grin, and well deserved. As ever, completely blown away by your genius!
Enjoy the celebrations, can’t wait for Friday……
BTW… did Phillis buy the winning ticket like he said he would?
Who’s going to talk to us now if he moves out of Brown towers into his new flash mansion with the solid gold bathroom?
Don’t leave us Phillis!
( I’m sure he’d do something far more original with the winnings anyhow!)
Since DB enjoys debunking all para-sciences as fraudulent, including SRI & US Military developed remote viewing methodology, perhaps I will fire up my radionic camera and do some debunking myself.
Well done, Derren! Totally amazing. I can’t wait to see how you did it. A few people on youtube think it was some sort of camera trick – but why would you have lottery numbers all over your walls and spend a year of your life learning how to do a camera trick? Plus it would make Friday’s show pretty boring. Nah, it’s gotta be more complicated than that.
I see you’ve been talking about positivity on the Events site: http://derrenbrown.channel4.com/derren-brown-thing-as-luck.shtml. I imagined it helped a lot when you were trying to figure out how the hell you were going to predict lottery numbers. I bet you use the Law of Attraction all the time.
I’ll be watching on Friday!
Alice
OMG….words cannot describe the emotions I was feeling watching this last night! My heart went out to Derren as soon as it started cos I could tell how genuinely nervous he was. But what on earth was he or anyone worrying about? It was bloody brilliant! When he went and turned his prediction around at the end, I just shouted out to anyone who could hear ……NO WAY!! (I think I probably shouted a little too loud cos I started my dogs barking and the cat shot out the room! :D)
It was absolutely fantastic! Congratulations, bravo & well done to everyone involved.
I hope you can relax now Derren and get on with the big reveal on Friday! 😉
Well done again! 🙂

Weren’t the numbers that Derren used the same ones that were mentioned on the forwardsplash website? Which has now conveniently been ‘hacked’ …..
@Blergh Camera trickery would be an awful way of doing it. At least paul daniels use announce ‘no camera tricks’ before his stunts. But you ‘re probably right, my first idea was cgi + tracking, there was something mechanical and forced about that camera wobble… I don’t expect him to reveal the real method on friday, but will be interesting to see what he comes up with. Could this be the beginning of the end of this new wave of derren magic?
did anyone see the gorilla?
All together now…
“OH……MY…….GOD!”
Really well done, Derren! I was practically glued to the screen during those ten, agonising minutes, and when the first number came through and you put your hand over your mouth, I just thought, “Oh God, he’s gotten them wrong…oh God, no!”
Nuts to those who said he couldn’t do this! “He’ll only get one or two numbers…”
Yeah, right!
Can I also add my gratitude to Abeo, Phillis etc, for getting the blog back up & running. Thankyou! 😉
LC x
>Derren! You were AMAZING…. lots of ‘oh it was just a split screen’ comments around the place from ignorant >people… No doubt you put a lot more hard work into it than that. I can’t wait til Friday to see exactly how you did >it. Show all those unintelligent people what it’s like to have a BRAIN and use it to its limits!
How rude. How about using your brain and thinking for yourself. Remember Derren is a trickster, these illusions carry over to the reveal show too, it’s all part of the stunt, and its what makes his style so unique I suppose. The reason they work so well is because people, like you are so – how can I say this nicely – blindly trusting. It could’ve been done with many different methods and despite what you’ll lap up on friday, we’ll never really know.
I feel for you guys in BT trying to sort us lot out 🙂
Blog didn’t do as badly as I thought… only a few minor explosions throughout the night 🙂 🙂
That was awesome. I was out with people from work and I made them all stop drinking to hear that Derren Brown was predicting the lottery. They didn’t care, they’re Canadian, but it’s the thought that counts, right? RIGHT?
I think he did it by phoning up Criss Angel and being all “hey, what are the UK lotto numbers going to be next draw? Oh really? K, thanks!”
Fascinating to watch but like many others I (and the friends who I was watching with) were somewhat dubious of the fact that the “prediction” was not shown beforehand. Accompanied by some waffle about “not being able to announce the result before the BBC”. Surely a “prediction” (even if correct) doesn’t count as the results?! Very fishy….
Great to watch though and we had great fun thinking up ridiculous “how was it done?” theories for the next few hours 😀
I let my son stay up to watch. If he falls asleep in school it’s all your fault Mr. B! ;o)
We’re going with Pepper’s Ghost, possibly two rooms?
Looking forward to the other shows!
@flapjack
I Know! If Phillis got a ticket, Brown Towers is going to become Brown Ivory Towers….
Also, Derren’s on a P&O Cruise?! How did I miss that? On a boat, with no escape… The possibilites are endless 😉
Simply brilliant. What an illusion! I can’t wait to find out the secret! x
Just one more… I love the showbiz wave he does to the camera at the back of the room! (although I’m not really sure why it was needed when it was pretty much all done with the close up camera?)
I don’t think I actually have decent enough words – certainly none that haven’t been said already.
But I still have to leave a comment, letting you know that every single amazing thing that COULD be said is absolutely implied with this disaster of a speech I’m typing here. 😉
…eeeven though I’m thinking that there’s something I’ve not quite latched onto yet, which may make me feel an oblivious fool come Friday night, I still take my metaphorical hat off to you, sir! Wow.
And now I shush! xx
Oh come on people, so its a good trick not life changing or anything. Predication tricks have been around for years and years and years and years and years. VERY Old format new presentation. And as for the working on it for a year rubbish, wake up and don’t believe everything you read or get told. Dam some people are stupid, no wonder Darren does so so well. Ps im going to make the river Thames vanish at 3pm today.. Ive been working on this for 30 years, dont blik or you will miss it…. and if you do blink dont blame me…
Congratulations Derren that was fantastic, I can’t wait to see how you did this.
LOL Just listened to that Derren Brown Lottery Song…..very funny! 😀

“The BBC have a legal right to announce the lottery numbers 1st”, Derren was making a prediction, not announcing the numbers, wish we could of seen his prediction 1st. Really enjoyed it, altho i chewed my nails down to the knuckles! Well done
Last night was brilliant – and I won a Tenner! Didn’t doubt Derren could do it, especially after I found the words PICK LOT RIGHT in the blog post! Off to spend my winnings!! xx
Alice: that’s the wrong question. The question you should be asking is, why would he tell you that he had lottery numbers all over his walls and spend a year on this if it’s a simple camera trick? The answer should hopefully be obvious.
plingboot: yeah, the “camera wobble” was very restricted in its effect. Sufficiently restricted that someone could replace half the image with a still without anyone twigging? Probably. Look at how the wobble makes the stand with the balls move about on screen during the critical part of the trick. It’s pretty much 2D: no rotation, no parallax effects with the backdrop, just like someone moving a flat picture around. Same with everything else on-screen during that time period, which would prevent any inconsistencies.
Plingboot – Fair enough you have your theory, but I have to ask… have you ever attempted CGI tracking? It’s a total git, and takes many man hours to get right once the TV footage is in the can, including the footage of the numbers. Doing it live is nothing short of insanity. I tried it back on my CG animation course and it nearly gave me a nervous breakdown trying to marry up two bits of footage with a week in hand to complete the project.
I scrutinised the screen and didn’t spot one camera cut. I think I know enough about how TV works to spot stuff like that having done CG myself. An instantaneous result like that would require a nightmare maze of technological backups. I’m sure there is a trick behind it, but I have a feeling you’re way off on that theory.
Really enjoyed the hype, the build-up, the performance, the trick itself… (sense the ‘but’ coming) but it wasn’t a prediction. DB only revealed his numbers after the official announcement. So, good trick, but not a prediction.
I was a bit disappointed with this. Seems more than obvious that they were “e-ink” balls that showed up the numbers on their screen-like exterior when someone with a remote link to the chip inside them typed in the lottery numbers as they were drawn. There was plenty of time for this to happen and if it had not been the case Derren would have been at greater pains to show that they were normal balls by eg cutting one in half at the end of the show. The real illusion will happen on Friday when he weaves some far-fetched tale as to how he did it.
that s what a normal prediction looks like
it s not an OPEN prediction though…if thats what you mean
I think we can rule out camera trickery and cgi tracking, This is not Derrens Style.
It has something to do with the balls but what I dont know.
Just have to wait until friday 9pm to find out, arrggghhhhhh I cant wait……
Great trick Derren.
I love Derren Brown and his stunts, what a legend, but why did he just not reveal the numbers before they where drawn ;o) Ha. Still, awesome showmanship and a great trick! Thank you!
OK so not sure which theory will be the right one as its deff some sort of trick but well done as u pulled it off to perfection. For those of you who are saying that because we didnt see the balls before hand, it therefore isnt a prediction…. have u NEVER seen a DB show before? The box on a chain above the stage in “Evening of wonders” for example; a prediction that was sat there, before and during the show, but only reveled at the end of the show. The first event is classic derren and the answer will be aswell.
He did a great stunt, and acted appropriately. Very convincing act of being nervous.
However, there was no doubt that Derren would get the numbers right. I believe it was a split-screen stunt, making the stand look like there was no-one near it; whereas the balls, or even the stand, was switched as soon as the numbers were drawn. The split screen was then removed, allowed Derren to present the numbered balls live.
I would love to be proved wrong on Friday though…..
I like your theory Kath, though my personal guess is that the numbers could have been etched on by a laser located in the rafters, hence them pointing upwards?
I admire the perfect use of showmanship in this event. This is so incredibly thought and worked through. There is actually more to say, but I don’t want to judge it before friday. And by the way, now I do understand why this could have been a career-breaker…. :/
Anyway, thank you for this wonderful bit of extraordinary entertainment!
@plingboot
He is a magician, he has been using tricks like this for ages. In fact his ultimate act of misdirection is convincing the public that he is anything other than an illusionist. Reading some of these posts makes me wince, but I guess those are the reactions he is after.
I don’t think Friday’s show will be about the camera trick, it will be convincing people that he did something to influence the numebrs or something. If he says it, people will believe it.
Anyway, due to the mistake that was made placing the balls, the trick is there to see. I bet the guy tasked with that got well and truly told off, as otherwise it would have been practically seamless (although the fake cam shaking was a bit too obvious as well).

just noticed that nobody managed to get all 6 numbers right: http://www.national-lottery.co.uk/player/lotto/results/prizeBreakdown.ftl Seriously, coops & co, you could have done better than that!
well done cant wait till friday
