Manchester/harrogate
Machester was lovely: the first night in Salford’s Lowry Theatre complex involved me trying to get up to speed: the combination of a day off and a hotel massage (turned out to be just head and shoulders etc but appreciated nonetheless) left me rather too chilled. The second night I was on better form, an the run there felt pretty good.
Last night we were in a huge barn of a conference centre in Harrogate, a beautiful Yorkshire town that is entirely new to me. It was a tricky room to play, lacked a lot of atmosphere in comparison to previous nights, but all was good. The start was marred by my mic pack dying on me, so Coops had to come out and replace the deficient piece of technology, which involved all sorts of untuckings and inelegancies. Shame, as it kicked the show off with a struggle, and it’s very hard getting the pace and tone back to where it should be if you start off like that.
Am just leaving the delightful Hotel du Vin in Harrogate, sadly having not had the opportunity to visit the famous Betty’s Tea Shop over the road, which I’m sure would appeal to every red-blooded male amongst you.
My throat has been tricky, as I do have a tendency to shout when I don’t need to (on stage at least). Been swigging lots of hot water and all the right things. Seem to be getting better.
Right, off to Blackpool in the drizzle. Nice.
X
Hope you have lemon and honey in that hot water. While it may be traditionally soothing, it also makes it taste nicer.
pls pls stay strong. Rest ur voice 4 oxford. Gd luck in blackpool. X
Sorry to hear about the Mic failure. Have you tried wearing a second backup one for a fast change over if it does fail?
Hope your throat continues getting better.
Keep well.
Glenn
Take care of yourself Derren – glad your throat seems to be getting better at least. So had the tour is going well for you so far. Have fun in Blackpool. Maybe you’ll come back to Belfast on your next tour? We miss you! π
Take care xxx
i love you!! i saw your show on friday night at the lowry, the girl that wore the sparkly top
i think you are amazing.. you are the most perfect man.. super intelligent
irrestibly charming
hilariously funny
extremly sexy
and most beautiful!
i do have one thing too ask, since after the show when im drifting off to sleep i keep thinking that my legs are being taken over (like somone is posessing them) and it feel like it slowly makes its way up my body. its that just gonna go in time??
much love and admiration! olivia wigglesworth xxx
You guys, he’s going to see the Seaworld in Blackpool Tower and think “Hmm… Monkey World… Alton Towers…” and then he’s going to give up shouting at people on stages and create an amazing Monkey-based theme park. Oh my god I cannot wait.
May the fourth be with you.
Apparantly: Water boiled with a bit of ginger in it, then cooled off, is supposed to do wonders for a sore throat π
Sorry to hear about the mishaps but as they say the show must go on.. hope your throat gets better soon.. dont shout .. thats why you have a mic in the first place. lol
It’s great to hear all is going well with the tour.
The comments on facebook represent what an amazing show you put on.. My exams are over this week, then it’s my chnace to see you and decide for myself just exactly how briliant you are.. :p
look after your throat and yourself for that matter.. cya soon
x
Hope your throat gets better soon Derren!
π
xx
Harrogate show was brilliant, even with the mic failiure. Fantastic ending…with all the usual showmanship, artistary and “hollingworthesque” finesse. A well deserved double standing ovation. Fantastic!!!
Derren, the mic thing didn’t spoil anything, you were fabulous and mesmerising as always, we thoroughly enjoyed the show. Maybe it would have been easier to change your mic if you wold have taken off your shirt!!!!
Damn, wanted to see you at the Lowry but left it way too late to book. Well good luck anyhow, and if there’s no further dates planned I’ll pick it up when the DVD comes out…
Manchester was brilliant! … and it’s “Salford” not “Saltford”, but I’m sure that’s just a type-o π
Oh, DeΓΒ‘rren, donΓΒ΄t be too hard on yourself with the minor mishaps on stage…iΓΒ΄m glad to hear that swigging in of the right things help,… the trick is to continue doing so though…
Hope you do enjoy your time in the meantime with the touring family…
tata, tata! for the update π

Sorry to hear about your sore throat Derren. I’ve not been to Blackpool since i was a little girl when i would run around the illuminations with my bro both wrapped from head to toe so we wouldn’t get cold. (ah memories) Hope the weather stays warm and dry for you while you are there, never nice when it rains by the sea.
Enjoy the rest of your tour. Saw you at Bournemouth but wish i could see you at plymouth also but i will be getting ready to put together my fine art degree show. Scary!
Have fun touring
Sorry to hear about the problems, I dare say Coops messing around with your wires provided some form even if it wasn’t meant to happen! π
Chrisx
Blackpool should have plenty of choice of ice cream – always soothing when you have a sore throat. You’ll have to wait until Plymouth if you want the clotted-cream-on-top option though. This also has the advantage of providing enough calories to get through several nights of the tour.
The mic prob didn’t spoil anything – most people thought it was a clever piece of misdirection!!! The Harrogate show was fantastic, it was wonderful to feel a part of something so special – I felt like a child again!
Saw you on Thursday at the Lowry. Amazing, loved every minute of it. π
Just wish I’d known about it sooner so I could have got seats in the stalls.
Sorry we all have funny accents up north that apparently make us really hard to understand!
Have fun in Blackpool – make sure you ride The Big One and also Vladira (sp?)…… oh and of course we expect to see pics of you and Coops on a donkey. *lol*
xx
Thursday night at the Lowry was fantastic! I’m a Derren Brown live show virgin and i was not disappointed. You always leave me scratching my head in bewilderment! Going to try and see you again during your west end run, if there are any seats left! Thanks again Mr Brown x
P.S Loved your Stewie impression x
saw you at Lowry on Sat night……….AWESOME and only 1 question that I still have after years of watching….HOW ????
keep it up
I was at the Harrogate show last night and thought it was absolutely wonderful. The mic failing and the unfortunate coincidence of the two girls that knew each other (but sat seperately) really didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the show, the effects were still excellent and the presentation was simply fantastic. Derren’s ability as a performer is unmatched in his field (and possibly anyone elses). It was the first time I have seen Derren live and it was an absolutely fantastic experience (even better than Derek Acorah if you can believe it), ΓΒ£30.00 for a ticket is amazing value, I would have paid twice that :O).
My recommendation: Try gurgling water with salt. Tastes nasty, but also can help and prevent any other throat conditions.
If that repulses you then you could always go for good ole Strepsils! Honey & Lemon Flavour. Does the trick for me. Especially if you don’t have time.
p.s If you were ever thinking of hiring a nurse for the tour; I’d be up for it. Only if the wages were right of course……….lol
Saw you in Harrogate yesterday, it was effing awesome, I actually thought the mic thing was supposed to happen at first. Don’t worry, your not missing that much by not going to Betty’s, except waiting for 2 hours while you queue to get a “quick” drink and overpriced custard slice. Hope your throat gets well soon, and please come back to Harrogate next tour, I would deffo go back to see you.
P.S. Awesome Stewie impression, “Hey Brian, I’m a stripper!”
Hey Derren,
I was so gutted that i missed out on seeing you last year at the lowery but managed to get tickets for thursday in the stalls. I WAS NOT DISSAPPOINTED!!!! what an incredible show and hope you come back next year to stunn us all again!
i am now reading your book and LOVING it!
you are an incredible man with endless talent (and if i may say rarther devilishly handsome!)
from a HUGE HUGE HUGE fan
stephanie pennington π
Hello! Seen the second show at the Lowry and it was fantastic!! Got to meet you after the show, we were the ones with pure effect and absolute magic…. Thanks for taking the time to chat and do photos, your such a nice man!! xx
Saw you in Harrogate last night. Brilliant show… been hyping you to my psych 6th formers for years and we all enjoyed the show despite the mic problem.
P.P.S By the way, one of your frisbees almost hit me in the forehead π x
Martin O — can’t believe you mentioned Derek A on here!!!
xx
Just got home from your Blackpool show and I have to say that you are a phenominal performer, it was awesome! I’ve been wanting to see your show for ages, and it was worth the wait! Lots of love and best wishes! xxx
Another amazing show on Sunday in Harrogate – and an absolutely awesome ending. The venue did lack some atmosphere and it was a bit quiet at the back, but I think the crowd were quieter than usual because they were so absorbed. A true talent, very funny and a genuinely nice guy (met him afterwards – another true highlight).
Betty’s is more of a place for women, usually the older kind who knit and have 35 cats. Not sure why it would appeal to any red-blooded male.
Also just got home from the Blackpool show which was amazing! We had a really great time (which flew by rather too quickly for my liking!)
I was a little surprised not to see any merchandise, unless I wasn’t looking in the right places. I thought you might have your book or DVDs for sale, some charming mugs, fake goattees and the odd stuffed animal? Perhaps not.
How do you wind down after a performance like that? The adrenalin must be going for hours after!
Anyways, thank you for a super-fantastic show. More dates please!
Just wanted to thank you for a superb show on Saturday night at The Lowry.
How the hell did you do that X-X_SPOILER_X-X!? My god, just impossible!
Yep the Lowry show was great! Can’t wait for London now.
Josh – sarcasm. ;o)
We saw you in Harrogate, the mic thing was just quite funny and the show was amazing. Felt really involved even though we were tucked up at the back. Still VERY confused by the whole last section – have no idea how you do it!
Either Stewie wasn’t a real audience member or he’s a BIG Derren fan and went to Blackpool as well.
The latter is fairly plausible, given his facial hair.
Hi Myself and my partner were at the harrogate show on sunday and we still cant stop talking about it, I was on stage and derren XXXXX-NO SPOILERS PLEASE – XXXXX, I was the one with no shoes on (Had very high heels and sore feet) I agree that the atmosphere at the back where we were was quiet but thats only due to peoples jaws being on the floor with amazement, I have told all family and friends they have to come to see the show although all sold out in the vicinty of where we live. Good luck for all future shows and cant wait for next tour. x
Better luck with all that Mr Brown π
xXx
Just confess .. you did not dare to enter Betty’s teashop … because .. what if your not so red blooded male you would come out huh?! Little twinkle toe ..
.. you could have gotten all the care you need for your throat there from Ms Betty et al … Some men are wise .. and some … simply just aren’t ..
Just the neck and shoulder huh … can make you extremely dizzy when done not the right way … I’ve had one of those once .. dont want those again … Love the better ones though … top to toe ..
Well, not always .. and def. not by anyone .. After hard physical labor (yes, some red blooded FEmale do this Derren .. ) .. or just out of plain boredom .. It never refreshes though .. it makes me fall asleep .. so never during a show I guess .. unless I would have been way too up to relate with the audience and such .. but hey … I’d look/feel a bit dopey on stage after massages and such … like .. hey man … how’s it going .. (bob marley music …) .. therefor .. straight to bed ..
Attended the Harrogate show with my girlfriend, Sister and her boyfriend.
We were all blown away – absolutely outstanding performance as always (our first live DB show but seen everything else from you).
The finale was possibly the best one ever pulled off – the revelations just kept coming!
I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for your future tours – Enigma was by far the best show I’ve ever been to!
I went to manchester to go see him – would have been awesome – if it wasnt for the rather annoying lack of trams and taxi’s in the area. When we finally managed to get a taxi he told us there was no way he’d be able to get us there and we were forced to conceded defeat. ΓΒ£30 down the drain and no Derren π It was made even worse as it was a ‘last outing’ for me and my ex – as we both love Derren’s shows and have always wanted to go. One of the worst days i’ve had in a good while. And the fella was really hoping to get his book signed as well π
Ah, Sue! That would explain a lot then.
That sucks Dan. Did you go on the Wednesday? If so there was a footie match on and there may have been a lot of traffic around the Quays area, as that’s where Old Trafford is. Other than that can’t think of why a taxi wouldn’t be able to get you there? It was really annoying that the trams weren’t running. I got a taxi there on Friday, from Piccadilly, and it cost a tenner! Rip-off!
Saw you in Harrogate last Sunday – it was the most AMAZING show I’ve ever seen, ever! I highly recommend it to anyone!
Still absolutely baffled by the grand finale – plus I’ve never laughed so hard in a very long time.
Thanks for an amazing night Derren! x
ohh sorry to hear about the problems you had in harrogate that’s a bummer hope the rest of the shows go better π
Haven’t been able to keep up with your blogs this past week (the laptop has well & truly crashed big style) so i’m at our local library don’t have much time left so i shall have to catch up with the blogs another day π
take care
see you next weekend π
(((hugs & love)))
