Last night’s art launch
Well – last night was the combined book launch party for ‘Portraits’ (delayed somewhat due to the West End run), and the start of a 2 week exhibition. We have some photos, but they’re not quite in my hands yet: promise to put some up here when I can.
As mentioned before, the exhibition of prints and originals runs at the Rebecca Hossack Gallery on Charlotte St in London until the 21st. Sales are already high, and if any of you do find that prints are sold out, we and the gallery will aim to get new ones available as soon as we can (aside from the limited runs of course).
I’m also looking at a very handsome oversized postcard set, which we’re going to be selling on the site. Rather yummy. Changes will all happen to the site this week.
Meanwhile, not being a seasoned sun-bather, I burnt myself horrendously on the Venice Lido all down my front. Could not have felt any more like a Brit abroad. Don’t bother with the Clarins SF40 concentrate, that’s what I say.
Otherwise it was a splendid weekend. The Gondolieri proved disappointing as expected. There’s only one handsome chap in this photograph and we all know damn well who it is:
Hope you all have less red and sensitive skin than I do.
x
congrats on the grand opening (ooer). that pic makes me jealous, hope you enjoyed the well deserved break.
Sunburn sounds painful, better go for the SPF50 next time. Looking forward to the exhibition.
No handsome gondolieri??
I’m very dissappointed indeed. Won’t bother going to Venice any time soon, now.
sorry to hear the Gondolieri proved very disappointing! i myself are finding a lot of men very disappointing lately too!!! where are all the hot men hiding??? but you are right there is one very handsome man in the shot ๐ pink or not…. x
Oh yes, congrats Derren.
I hope you enjoyed your weekend away!
And good luck with the sunburn ๐
x
Looking forward to the photos. Awww, sunburnt – put some milk in your cool bath. Do they not provide shades on gondalas! Nothing like a little vanity – maybe the guy with the shades could give you a run for your money – Minus the Beano type Tee of course.
yes derren u do look rather handsome in the photo – as always. Don’t get too burnt. X x
You do make me chuckle ๐
Glad to see you having a break. Nobody deserves one half as much as you or the DB crew!
x
Nice one Derren. Looking forward to the postcards. By the way, have you seen the puzzle art by Daily Telegraph puzzlist Barry R. Clarke? It’s at http://barryispuzzled.com/creativepuzzles.html
Do you have some secret skill which you haven’t published yet “how to look good on every photo taken from you”?!
Glad you had fun at your trip – despite the gondolieries disappointment. I’m sure landscapes was pretty good anyway (you were in Italy after all) ๐
Derren is very talented and successful, but jealousy is a bad thing.
Please do tell !! if you had the services of an onboard accordionist, or tenor ? As for handsome italian gondoliers do try here http://www.julipet.it
Clarins Soin Anti- Rides for Ultra Protection…..will have you looking like a million dollars ๐ C.
Derren i think you might be able to take over the world! You need to be on the TV more too lol.
Derren looking red skinned in every shot? Well if I was a charming mentalist with bright red sunburn and had the best manicured goatee in the world, I’d brazen it out and wind up some fundamentalists into the bargain…
Can you buy joke shop horns and a long red pointy tail in Venice? When people ask you where you went on your holidays you can say “Hell and back!”
Failing that get some after sun lotion before you start flaking.
My wonderful boyfriend is taking me to Venice in 4 weeks. Can’t wait. Prob won’t bother with gondola trip now though ๐
Aloe vera gel/lotion will def help with the sunburn! Really sorry you are feeling worse for wear after a break. Look forward to seeing more about the postcards.
aloe vera gel. helps soothe skin. and at least it isn’t peeling. (: great for you that everything went awesomely.
The last time I was on a gondolier, the stripy fool insisted on singing to me. Consider yourself lucky.
Callie – The last time you were ‘on a gondolier’?!?! Excuse me?
Don’t you mean ‘gondola’, or is this another service he was providing?
No wonder he was singing ๐
Hurrah at Exhibition, launch parties and Venice (so beautiful, been myself – v.envious). Boo hiss at sunburn. Am the same, tis rubbish being the sensitive bunnies that we are.
By the way, looking delicious, Mr Brown. Who needs Gondolieri’s anyway…..they’re only good for Corneto’s ;o)
Nice to see you finally escaped the big brother house for the day…only kidding Derren..halfwit doesnt remind me of you at all….;) was that convincing? Love ya really
O O ohh…beautiful man… loveley gondoliers… pretty italian waiters… the beautifull artistry sights…iรยดm not jeleous…getting sun burnt will teach you! ๐
Don’t sunbathe! You’ll get a horrible wrinkled cleavage.
Look closer – those two stripy guys are about to face off and have a waterjoust with those awesome sticks. You can see it in their eyes.
Yesterday? damn.I was planning on gatecrashing the gallery tonight, blagging my way in somehow… Nevermind.
Try some organic sun screens – better for the planet and they work (Greenpeople 30SPF works on my white skin british husband!) Sunburnt but still handsome, both of you ๐
Oh dear, what a terrible type that was! Thank you, flapjack ๐
You look like you are so pleased with yourself after confusing those two stripped people for your own entertainment. They are looking at each other as if asking ‘wha…?’.
“The Gondolieri proved disappointing as expected.” That just blows my mind.
Callie – admit it, you simply can’t resist a guy with a cornetto and a 10 foot pole! ๐
Oh Flapjack – do you always have to bring everyone down to your level? Anyone want to spank him?
Been a while since I last posted :/
Glad to hear you enjoyed your well-earned break (despite the burn).
I’m the same, I like the sun… but it doesn’t like me too much.
In the pic, is your gondolier looking back and suddenly realising that for some (unknown) reason he’s been going the wrong way down a one-way system and following some route deviations he has no explanation for?
๐
Best of luck with the exhibition D and crew.
I will try to make it (would like to) but it’ll probably be nearer the end if I can.
Unless… of course, you fancy bringing the exhibition down to Brighton too!?
๐
Peace people.
Spank him? Do you two have something goingon the rest of us should hear about in graphic detail?
Congratulations on the exhibition! Hopefully might get down to London to see it. Venice, you lucky man, shame about the sunburn! You deserve a well earned break after your West End run :] Lovely pic btw x
Phillis/ SGC – yes sorry, I’ve lowered the tone again!
I just can’t overlook such a huge Freudian slip… I tried to resist temptation but i just couldn’t.
If you want to spank me, you’ll have to do it in person ๐
What a lovely photo…..how come some people can look so good in front of a camera! Tisn’t fair….
Oh my dear, I know exactly what sunburn is like…I’m blonde, fair-skinned, it doesn’t take much for the sun to turn my skin the colour of a lobster. But Factor 40? Total-block might be called for next time, perhaps? ๐ Calamine lotion is good for soothing & healing sunburn but the stuff smells absolutely disgusting.
But anyway, am glad you had a nice break otherwise and good luck with the exhibition. ๐
LC x
WELL DONE DERREN!
You deserve everything good in life (apart from the flipping sun-burn that is!)
Wishing you all the very best for the exhibition – a big success I’m sure. The book is excellent, just like its artist.
Love to you always. XXXXXXXXXX
That sort of spanking’s always good to keep naughty little boys (and girls) in check… although some behave better if you threaten NOT to spank them anymore! haha.
๐
yes, derren is beautiful in every picture ever taken of him. so i decided to severely punish him fer his hubris by calling him on his cell phone & making him fall asleep in the sun so he could toast like a crisp.
mwaa haa haaa…
Bless. Glad you had fun. ๐ Can sympathise with the sunburn…. ouch ๐ x
@ mill, roz & various others i’m bound to have missed!!
DVB looks good in all pictures, how is this possible???
Gotta be magic, its the only explaination!!!!
XXX
You ought to be ashamed, Flapjack. I feel like I am on a gondola sailing through the dark and twisted gutters of your mind.
Not like I am on a gondolier, though, cos I am just classier than that.
SGC – I don’t think of my mind as a network of Venician canals or even gutters… it’s more like an underfunded rail network… one track and dirty ๐
For the record, I think you’re being a bit unfair on gondoliers… I’m sure there’s plenty of classy gondoliers out there, even if to the untrained observer they’re basically glorified Italian cabbies in canoes!
P.S. I am ashamed, and want to apologise to everyone, especially to poor Callie, who’s minor Freudian slip has taken on a life of it’s own.
‘Spiacente’ as they say in Italy
hehe haha hohoo…look what a gondolier can do to all our minds…i suspect that some here schnabbel as one in their wild bathtub fantasies…
Burned all front ???? Hm …. now then .. you brits are a bit like moths huh … are they somewhere where that shiny thing is in the sky … Next time a cute parasol … you will steal the show on those gondolas … ehehehe …. and they do come in handy when people are a bit too enthusiastic … or when someone tries to steal something from you .. just poke em in the body at the right spots … that will teach them .. and it’s fun. Although you may end up with a black and blue eye .. happened to me once.
Yeah, or sunblock .. but hey .. that looks kinda odd .. a bit like native americans on war …
i myself use rosecream, no sf, but hey .. I’m superb.
Is that your interesting pose in the gondola? Oh, and it seems kinda busy on the water .. lots of small japanese or chinese or such in the other gondola ..
Oh, and it may have been good that there were not handsome guys on the gondola’s, it might have gotten you in trouble otherwise ……
Huh? Oh .. yes, it can be a boost as well for .. erm .. other things. Oh, there were handsome guys? But not in the gondola’s? Aha … you would not call them handsome .. that would not be the right word?
Now then .. postcards … yummy …. never have seen yummy postcards but I’m always in for something new and tasty.
You have rain overthere huh?! Here it is like in Venice … Actually .. a gondola would look quite nice in my future pond/lake. Yes, maybe I’ll put someone in it …
Ms G, are you saying his boat is filled with tiny invisible Chinese people? What’s he looking so happy about, then?
Flapjack, if those goldoliers had any class they’d get rid of the invisible midgets. British rail networks, on the other hand, do have chavs so maybe thee are the canal’s equivalent? Also, while I hope everyone forgives you, I hope your shame burns you like a sunburn, because you totally deserve it.
A post from Derren always makes following this blog worth it. His tone and style always make me smile and sometimes smirk.
Good on you, handsome chap.
you are quite correct about being only one handsome man in the photo! plain yoghurt on sunburn soothes it very nicely! bit sticky tho!
Can I just check – is the exhibition open on the 22nd ?
You say ‘until the 21st’ here, but it says 22nd elsewhere (I’m hoping to see it on the 22nd)
Cheers
Great to hear from you.
Sorry about the sun burn. Being a whitey myself I know how awful it is.
Of course the problem with putting anything on it is that you have to
touch the sun burn and thats the last thing you want to do!
Hope it hasn’t spoilt your holiday. You are so lovely and deserve
a good rest.
ooouuucchchh poor Derren (((hugs))) I bet that hurt getting sunburnt yeowch
I got badly sunburnt a few years back & it was the 1st (and I hope last time) I got sunburnt.
Normally I don’t tan or burn no matter what but that day I did, It was when we had an extremelly hot summer the hottest for a very long time, I think it was about 3 or 4 years back it was absolute agony & given the fact I’m fair skinned have fair hair & vitiligo It sure doesn’t help it makes getting sunburnt all the worse
I hope you’re o.k now love poor you awwww sweetie
i’ll come & rub on some aftersun stuff if you like hehehe ๐
wish i could come down to the gallery opening but sadly It’s not possible although I have applied for tickets for the event so may if I’m lucky be coming along to that & I have just ordered a ticket for the 27th of feb front row in crawley so shall see you there hon
take care
try not to get burnt again lovely
Love & big hugs
Chantelle ๐
