NOT IN RUSSIA
Just in case there’s a terrorist attack on Moscow or I’m spotted inΒ HeatΒ buying fancy Marmite variations and you think I’ve been lying to you. The documentary was pulled at the very last minute. Thermals packed and everything. Still hoping it might happen at some point, as the school seems a fascinating place.
Have spent a couple of days writing more of the book – this had been put on the back burner a while ago – and am today back into working on ‘The Event’. Even managed to get to the cinema over the weekend, which I haven’t done for a very long time: saw Milk, which was quite extraordinary. Penn must be the greatest screen actor of our generation. You may also be interested to know that I have, as of yesterday, finally watched the classic Star Wars Trilogy: I only ever saw the first one, once, as a kid. Now I feel I understand a whole set of cultural references which had until now eluded me. Finally I get all those Jedi mind-trick jokes. Until now I was faking.
x
That’s funny, The amount of time Dreen’s been called a Jedi master!
That Marmite with Champagne is just so wrong. Going back many many years, I seem to remember there having been a documentary on Harvey Milk just after his assassination (sorry, spoiler). Here we go
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088275/
AND you get the wonderful Harvey Fierstein narrating. I never saw it of course. Too busy being young.
Just don’t watch episodes 1, 2 and 3, they are total pants!
Oh! I alas am ashamed to admit I too have not yet seen Star Wars. As a result, I feel like one of the great “unwashed”. My 6yr old is just now expressing an interest in all things sci-fi, so (fingers crossed) I will see it ‘by default’. Hope it’s not a disappointment
It is a shame about Russian trip – would have been genuinely interested to see said documentary. Ofcourse their website (being entirely in Russian) offers zero in way of information!!! (Was that meant to be funny btw?) π
Darn … regarding to Bronnikov’s school .. really had hope to get some more information about it .. have read a lot already on it, but ofcourse .. being there in person and viewing a few demonstrations by a pro (not me) … might have answered a few things .. or not ..
So Russia still does not want to give away her secrets huh .. maybe they are thinking about misusing it for something else then … hehe ..
Never heard of Milk .. I think .. Starwarstrilogy is being aired in Holland on tv .. I see it all the time .. in the tv guide .. but never have watched it .. triggers something but still don’t watch .. (triggers something due to those trekkies ofcourse .. ). I’m not faking that I get the jokes .. just amazed … not faking this either ..
hah, thats funny – I was watching Star Wars IV last night as well.
Want to share what the book is about?
Until I checked, I thought you were heralding the acting skills of Penn Jillette, who as much as I respect him, I couldn’t imagine playing anyone other than himself. Milk sounds great, though.
Unbelievable… Phillis, I hope you slapped Derren’s little pink paws over Star Wars, really!
And I guess this means Derren will be going on a Ski trip to make use of all the thermals he had bought, perhaps hmm! Oh well, maybe next time!
There are not even variations in Marmite .. darn you Brown!
I thought I was going to see something nice and new (I happen to like Marmite) … googled heat and marmite variations .. very interested .. drewling already … bugger … You do have more variety in yars though .. (we only have the glass yar).
Now I know what Milk is about. I’m not going to watch it I think, for the time being. Brokeback mountain was a bit different, I had to sit all the time in my own self while watching .. it started very slow and I thought .. I’m not going to watch this … but ended up seeing it completely .. depressed I went to bed… it left me so without my normal spirit .. I’m not gay, so can’t say much about the two guys but I thought they acted damn good. They came closer to me being a viewer than hetero couples. I’m probably a gay guy trapped in a female body .. hehehe ..
The accent of one of the two was a bit too much I thought, but hey ..
And I totally missed the 1st moment in the tent … I did not get it .. wont explain but I heard something I could not place so well .. but that’s me being hetero sexual probably. And it was so darn dark (always annoys me in movies .. that you can’t see a freaking thing, no matter what is in the scene .. these shades and such .. very annoying. I know, they want to make it very real .. still, just as annoying as it can be in real life .. ).
Anyhow .. Milk … not for the time being, but the name will stick to the mind so who knows .. when it’s out on dvd ..
Ms blabber will now go back to work … or do the other post …. hm ..
“That’s good. You have taken your first step into a larger world.”
Just thought I’d add a star wars reference……
I’ll get my cloak
is it just on this website or is an overuse of ellipsis a symptom of being completely insane?
My psychiatrist tells me I’m perfectly sane…
@ Kim
I think its the overuse of exclamation marks that indicates insanity (!!!!!!) if we listen to Terry Prachett, which of course we should!!
It’s too late Derren – You lost out to Ewan Macgregor when they recast Alec Guinness.
Perhaps if they make the 7th movie they’ll call you!
After seeing that picture of C-3PO, I’m reminded of some commentary by the great Karl Pilkington in which he describes some “sexy metal pants” he saw in a museum once.
Shame about Russia, Derren! Would have been great to see it…variations in marmite? Who knew…
As for Star Wars, I have seen them all dozens of times and still can’t remember who is who (although am on top of most of the cultural references). I’m so terrible, in fact, I have to have my fiance explain to me who Bobba Fett (hope spelling is right) is every frigging time…
Now that Russia is gone, perhaps you will consider a Dublin date for your new tour!!!
Nopke: There are too! I saw champagne Marmite in London last summer. Didn’t buy it, because champagne is a totally overrated drink in my opinion (then again, I’m that weird goth chick who only likes mead and absinthe as far as alcohol goes π ). Waste of perfectly good Marmite to put rotten grape juice in it, if you ask me.
Anyway, it really sucks to have a trip cancelled at the last moment. I wonder what happened — did the institute decide they weren’t happy being in a skeptic’s documentary after all, or did the production company pull the plug on it? If the latter, I do hope we’ll still get to see the part with the British psychic…
Berber: AHA! I don’t drink at all (for safety reasons people around me) but I’d prefer whiskey or such in it then .. if it has to be alcohol ..
Nope, not geting it either .. marmite and champagne .. Royal marmite? Opposites attract?
And HEAT??? What kind of shop is that anyway … doesn’t sound as it is selling marmite … uhuh, Derren .. we’re on to you now .. to your shopping spots ..
Hehe .. champagne marmite .. Oh, wait, wait .. it’s the french taking over marmite company …
Now see what Derren started ….about Marmite .. if he can do this .. imagine what he can do with other stuff … Oh, he already did ?
Googling champagne marmite …
Heat. Now that’s one cultural reference I am deliberately ignoring so, Derren, if you do crop up in it I will be completely oblivious.
There is actually marmite with guiness:p which sounds exactly how it tastes like. I’m bored with uni stuff and I was so hoping for this documentary to come out. And I am so mad at myself- I’ve just missed Grimsby tickets:( and basically that’s the only day I can go and the only place that is not that far from London. Now, I’m begging You, Derren- either make some dates in London, please please please, or do tell me that ou are planning a new tour next year, please please please
John Archer at King’s College tonight- anyone?
Berber Anna, I really like champagne, but hate marmite. Oh well.
Sorry that wasn’t really on topic.
theres a new book?
Kirsty – I’m with you there! I can’t even be in the same room as Marmite… ewww… why would you waste good champagne on it?
Berber Anna – I’m with you on the goth chick mead & absinthe thing though! π
I am convinced Marmite is a huge practical joke you Brits decided to pull on your foreign friends. “C’mon, try it! It’s SO good!” Yeah right…. That is the nastiest stuff I have ever tasted.
Welcome to the 21st century Derren – may the force be with you oh great and learned leader. π
This is really OT (sorry Phillis!), but I read from Wiki what on earth is Marmite and I found it quite… …well… …interesting. I wasn’t ever heard it before.
The name sounds like Marmelade, so the picture I had in my mind was something sweet. Then I read it’s very salty and dark coloured slop (hope got the right word here) – brrrrr…
Funny taste you english there have π
Mill: It’s pretty good if you ask me, and I’m not English. It’s not just salty, it’s also ‘umami’ (savoury).
I used to mix it with peanut butter, but I can’t have peanut butter anymore, so I’m looking for a new mix-in. Tried molten cheese today, but that was rather horrible.
It works well on its own in cucumber sandwiches, too.
…When did this turn into a discussion of Marmite? π
Shame about Russia… but with regard to your comment over Star Wars – do you fake it often Derren? ;o)
And everyone saying about English eating weird Marmite… URGH! most of us dont… its a case of either Love it or Hate it (I am of the latter).
Katie – Since when was Grimsby near London? *lol* I think you may have looked it up wrong hun.
xx
aghh not another star wars geek I certainly hope not arrghhh if that’s the case then boy will you love Darren Hayes (to say he loves star wars is the understatement of the centuary) lol *rolls eyes*
Don’t like it much myself
hey talking of marmite I sent my friend Keti (who lives in serbia) some mamite breadsticks & she loves them (yuck) can’t stand them myself but she wanted to try them sadist hahaha
ohh & I sent her a dvd of your begoateed self she hasn’t received parcel 2 yet (with the dvd in it) but she is looking forward to watching you (mad woman lol)
shame about the russia thing babes ah well some other time eh
well if your not busy now you could always come round to mine for tea & fun hahaha
see you soon babes
chantelle : )
*reaches for a sick bag* π
Awww what a shame about the documentary, i was really looking forward to seeing that for many reasons. Hopefully you’ll get to do it in the future.
Champagne Marmite? How the hell did I miss that? Would love to try it, I’m in the love it camp…Yum…think I’ll go and have some on toast now…
Got tickets for The Event! Huzzah! Can’t wait…
Oh and I can’t wait to see Milk, thanks for the spoiler BF π
Sean Penn’s a fine, fine actor…
Oh! I wanted a tongue…damn, how does the tongue go?
(rude answers welcome)
Sabina: Does that mean you won the competition? If so, congrats!
Oh, and the tongue is this -> : P (but with the space removed).
Damn, as others have noted.
I must correct you though. Penn is good but I think if you do some research you’ll find that Gary Oldman is the best actor of that generation, or any for that matter.
Egads! You never saw Empire Strikes Back? You didn’t even know about the incest aspect? It’s just a pity that George Lucas didn’t stop right there while he was ahead.
Too bad it didnt work out.
star wars is sick
I can’t wait to see Milk…i’ve been planning to watch it for a while now, i just hadn’t got the time.
Sean Penn is also a damn great director! Watch “Into the Wild” if you haven’t yet.
Sue, isn’t it like four hours from london on train? i can bear it- it’s actually quite fun, so guys- i’m ready to sell my soul for two tickets on the 16th may.
Katie – troo, troo… although I would of thought one of the other venues would of been closer for you.
I do have 2 tickets for each night at Grimsby, quiet good seats as well (not as good as last years front seats, but hey-ho)…. How much is your soul worth? ;o)
– if you want to put your email on here, I’ll email you.
xx
Katie: Think you will find a few tickets left at Plymouth Pavilions on May 24th. Only 3 hours or so from London Paddington by train. Try http://www.plymouthpavilions.com/prod-productions_details.asp?pid=231
Marmite… Candidiasis in a jar. Not palatable and deeply, deeply wrong.
I saw this on a forum today, it’s so beautiful and concise, almost a haiku:
Derren brown is fake.
He cheats by using the devil.
He is also a devil.
SUE! fleurdelys1889@gmail.com
this is my e-mail- my soul’s worth a lot.
My friend from Poland can only come on the 16th, and if I can get tickets for then, that would be just perfect. Otherwise, I would have to go on my own, and so, he is coming especially for the show, and it would be really disappointing for him probably, so I’ll do my best to get these tickets!
Sean Penn is not the greatest actor of our generation. He is a douche! Saw him in Tesco, he dropped his clubcard on the floor, I picked it up and gave it back to him – he didnt even thank me!! I think I can guess why you like him Dez and Im sure its got nothing to do with his acting lol
BA, no I didn’t win the tickets; I got them through applying on the lostinTV site. They’re for Sat 7th February.
Anyone else got tickets for The Event?
Lolly, you ALMOST put me off Marmite for a second…
BF: *grins* I think that’s one of the most poetic flames I’ve ever seen. Also, if one is doing magic, I wouldn’t call ‘devil-using powers’ cheating, exactly… π
Sabina: Oh, cool! You were one of the lucky ones, then (at least people in the other topic said they went pretty fast) π
Have fun there!
Derren, what sort of childhood could deprive a boy of the 1970’s and 80’s his fair share of Jedis and lightsabers? Even my pathetic Dickensian upbringing allowed for me to see all three films, some more than once! I’m glad you’ve finally seen them, though they were a good deal better when you were in short pants and the special effects were still state of the art!
Glad to hear that Milk is as good as the critics said. Can you imagine what it would have been like had George Lucas wrote the script? Dialogue was never exactly his strong suit. π
Why would you pay to go to the cinema to watch ‘milk’? I’m not much of a milk watcher myself, but I’ve seen plenty of it just sitting around on shelves in the supermarkets and even some newsagents… and all of it seems to be just begging for some attention! Still what we all get up to at the weekends is our business I suppose….!
As for the Heat caused by Marmite champagne, (Lolly was right), but I believe you can buy some soothing cream for that over the counter at the chemist!?
