Some Penn & Teller tickets left!
Penn and Teller – my favourite magicians – are so rare amongst conjurors: they have remained cool in a way that others seem to find impossible. I believe this is due mainly to the fact that their agenda has never been about themselves: they have never postured and apotheosised themselves in the hollow way magicians invariably do. And although they have always been the ‘bad boys’ of magic, disclosing methods and ridiculing the fraternity, they produce some of the finest pieces of magic you will ever see.
As you will probably know, they are performing at the Hammersmith Apollo this coming week. The show is fantastic: astonishing, in-your-face, gasp-out-loud, and very funny. There are some tickets left and it’s well, well worth going to see them. They so rarely come to the UK: this is a real treat.
Tickets can be bought here.
i used to love penn and teler when i was younger, me and my brother used to love magic shows ect…….my uncle used to teach my brother how to do some simple tricks and he used to amaze me with them when he got home 🙂
wow. I wanna dodge bullets. That was awesome. Enjoy the show Derren.
I’ve got my tickets from when you posted about it a few months ago. Thanks for the tip- I wouldn’t have known otherwise, and Penn and Teller have always been a favourite. I can’t wait!
I cannot wait til the 17th!
We’ve had our tickets for what seems like ages!
Too expensive 🙁
Also got my tickets when you mentioned them. Probably not something I would have thought of going to, although I’ve enjoyed them on TV (anyone remember them showing up in Babylon5?) – but after seeing you earlier this year your recommendation was good enough for me! Looking forward to it!
Am going next Saturday. Can’t wait! Thanks for the original tip off. 🙂
This trick is the reason I do not like Penn & Teller anymore.
I’ve tried & tried and I can’t work out how they do it !
Pah ! 🙁
I saw them on Jonathan Ross last night – they blew me away! “This isn’t juggling – this is misdirection.” absolutely epic. And the three of clubs! Well, they were simple tricks – but the way they performed and presented it! Wow! They really are a charming pair.
P&T’s genius is they brilliantly escape the ‘smugness trap’ that plagues magicians, especially when they achieve prominence: How many times can a magician ‘fool’ the audience before a resentment inevitable sets in (the answer is: “not a lot!”). P&T send up the whole relationship by appearing ridiculously arrogant, while keeping it smart and sharing their love of the medium with the audience.
I saw Penn & Teller in’ the Rio’, Las Vegas a couple of years back.
they were, and still are, awesome
Got my Tickets last week, and, believe me, this is a lot cheaper than travelling to Nevada
I love Penn & Teller, been watching them on TV for years (I wonder if anyone remembers Penn appearing in an episode of The New Adventures Of Superman? Yes, it was a primarily magic-based episode!)
Sadly, as much as I would have liked to, I can’t go and see them live this time as it’s also my Mum’s 60th birthday on Thursday and we have a few things lined up for her. Aaah well…..I hope everyone has a fab time those who are lucky enough to go. 🙂
LC x
We’re going on Wednesday and making a trip of it (since we’re coming all the way from Yorkshire). We’re seeing Ghost Stories on Tuesday as well as a tour of Television Centre. I am quite giddy with excitement.
Oh, and Lady Claire, I see your Superman memory and raise you Rebo & Zooty in Babylon 5. I am SUCH a geek! 😉
William Ellsworth Robinson died for your sins…
@Jen – I never watched Babylon 5 so I guess I’ll have to fold….. 🙁
LC x
Damn I am so annoyed I can’t go, I love Penn and Teller 🙂 they were ace on Jonathan Ross the other night. Just so skint atm. why couldn’t it have been later in the year damn it damn it damn it 🙁 x
I’m going next Sunday, got my tickets as soon as DB first mentioned them; I’d never have known about it otherwise! Can I raise the Babylon 5 to Sabrina the teenage Witch, Penn & Teller were in Sabrina the Teenag ewitch quite a bit; Penn was the head of the Witches Council, and I believe he was called Drell… GEEK!!!
They are really cool!!! I’ve just been looking at some of their stuff now. Very entertaining 😀
I can tell you how they do this trick… but I won’t 😉
There on wednesday. Cant’t believe there are spare tickets. Can only blame years in Vegas pergatory. They are great because they think James Randi is a God! And he is a God for taking on that perennial idiot-bait Uri Geller.
Really interesting articles in Time Out and the Telegraph (simple google searches should do it). Stuck in Vegas for the vast majority of the year working with someone you have a very distant relationship with – it’s something I’ve never got.
Now I know Teller has a great relationship with other magicians including I believe our blogger but this quote from Penn made me smile in amusement – “Even now I hate those magicians who claim to read body language, or use psychology or feats of memory in their acts – it’s just bullshit, man.’ I doubt he was thinking about anyone in particular but……;-)
Anyhow I hope they’ve ironed out the reported issues from the first night – looking forward to going along tonight!
Went to Vegas last week with one aim of seeing them on their home turf only to find out the had done a disappearing act to UK………….
fuckSake!
