Torquay again
As imagined, a very couply audience, and rather quieter. Last night (Sunday) was the best show yet.
Today Iain, Jen, Simon and I went to the Marble Museum around Newton Abbott, and then for a drive across the moors to Widecombe, a village made entirely of gift-shops, for a great lunch. The Marble Museum is fun, though again more gift shop than marbles, and contains a number of astonishing runs built by Swiss artist Alex Schmid. Plenty of gifts bought for crew.
Rather full and snug following this afternoon’s gammon steak/toffee pudding, but will try to summon energy for the last night in this lovely place.
Must now begin the nightly steam-inhale-session. Looking forward to tonight.

Have fun tonight…. I shall find in wierd being at a Haiti concert tonight instead of Enigma….
Nice to hear you in such fine spirits and enjoying the places you’re visiting on tour, Derren. And nothing can beat a good old fashioned English gift shop! No matter where it is.
Glad to hear last night’s show went so well. Looking forward to seeing you at Crawley & Eastbourne! 😀
Take care

Enjoy your last night in Torquay.
SG xx
You should have played up your guess as a psychic prediction that it would be a quiet couples night!
Steam inhale? Do you have a condition?
On an unrelated note, if you are anyone wants to register for the South Carolina subversive list, the forms are online now (scroll down — or use Find — to “Subversive Agent Form”):

You should have gone to the novelty teapot factory. Up the road from the house of marbles. They have a tea room. And a nature reserve. And you can paint your own teapot. Should have asked my advice last night dolly.
Xx
The nightly steam inhale session .. that’s more a early evening steam inhale session .. whatever that may be, or is it to open up nose and such ? Make sure not to get to snug but you probably dont hang over a bucket filled with steamy water .. Or is it that hot in the theatre? Sweaty. Like a sauna. That’s weird , probably only in your spot on stage due to lamps and your running around and hyper activity on the outside.
Oh well, don’t put in there then ..
Ah, couple audience .. how sweet. I wonder who gave the gift … the men or women, in general. Hm..
Marble museum .. I thought the round little ‘balls’ which childeren use .. but maybe you mean the material marble .. or maybe both. I’ll check the internet, now I want to know, although I’d still say .. marble museum?
Hiiii derren! We are here in Torquay, looking forward to seeing you tonight xxx
Enjoyed the Valentine’s Day show immensely. Amanda and I can’t stop talking about how you could have done it all. Oh, and we have both ***SPOILER REMOVED***.
Good luck with the rest of the tour!

Me and my boyfriend travelled 5 hours from grimsby last night to watch your show in torquay – was an amazing show, got your autograph and picture afterwards! Was too excited to talk though!!! Enjoy your last show! x
Derren meant the House of Marbles at Bovey Tracey – if you’re lucky the best part is the glass-blowing workshop but it’s not open every day.
Was a brilliant show last night (as expected) you didn’t fail to impress and amaze. Was lovely to meet you, have a great show tonight.
I like the way Chris & Amanda’s comment has had the spoiler removed lol
Cant wait for the 10th April. Travelling all the way from Durham to Milton Keynes to see you!
Daniel, the underaged son of the Green and Blacks supplier (sorry it wasn’t a whole bar!) was particularly impressed with your Stewie impersonation. I thought the rest of the show was pretty fantastic too. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed Torquay! Ah, the House of Marbles, brings back memories of many a school/brownies trip. Along with Paignton Zoo and Babbacombe model village!
Should have come to Teignmouth and sampled the delights of… well, nothing really. A big co-op and lots of pensioners. Best not to bother.

Last night was fantastic, thank you Derren. Thanks your time afterwards, and the Burts Chips – they were tasty! Jon & Nat. Ps: can I have a job?
take care of that exquisite throat…
You should do the Theatre Royal in Margate, it’s supposed to be well haunted and it’s a really amazing venue. Unfortunately, It is probably too small for your size of audience.
@Helen: I am afraid the novelty teapot place closed down a year or so ago. Shame as it did do lovely cakes in the teashop. Must say I do find it quite bizarre Derren and Co visiting Newton Abbot – that’s where I go to do my weekly food shop!
Wish I could drive 5 hours to see the show.. Any chance you are visiting Spain / Barcelona one day Derren?
Hey Derren, I’ve never commented on here before but I’m a big fan of yours! Love Torquay, the marble place you went to is good too (I live in North Devon so have been there a few times!) I’m coming to see your show in Bristol on the 6th March – can’t wait! Emma 😀
Glad your enjoying South Devon and look forward to when you next return!
What a fantastic night. Bought tickets for my boyfriend’s birthday present, who is a huge fan. Travelled from near Brighton and spent a lovely weekend in Torquay but the show was most definitely the highlight, was well worth the wait. We were both dumbstruck by the end. We just hope we don’t have to wait too long for a new tour in the future.
Best of luck for the rest of your tour and thank you for a most excellent evening.
Anita & Pete
So pleased the tour is going most resplendantly. Just watching “Evening of wonders” as we speak and getting very exctied about Enigma in March at Bristol hippodrome….whoop! Damn that hole-tempting!!!
Hey Derren,
Saw your show last night, and got your autograph and one for my friend in Spain. your show last night was fab!!

Hi Derren
Just got home after seeing your show tonight at Torquay- what an AMAZING evening. I was completely blown away by it all and my son (15) thought your impression of Stewie was great too. !! Thank you Derren. True entertainment at its best !
Can’t wait to see more in the future.
Good luck for the rest of the tour

Hey Derren,
Saw the show last night. It’s one to rival your very best. Also met you after the show and got just about everything signed. It’s great that you do that with your fans as I know you must be tired after a 2 and a half hour show.
Good luck with the rest of the tour and look forward to your new shows/book. Will be sure to come to the next show (when you’ve written it!) x
Derren, your show last night was absoloutely amazing, I really think it’s the best one yet!
I agree with Rory, it’s such a lovely gesture that you take the time to personally sign things for your fans.
Hope you enjoyed your stay in Torquay, and good luck with the rest of the tour. We’ll all be looking forward to hearing what you’ve got ligned up next! x
Safe journey home from Torquay, I see it’s raining again – so much for the English Riviera, missed your show as family member “chose” this weekend to be rushed to hospital (get well soon Bro’) so gutted – please don’t leave it too long before you return – as for the Osbourne Hotel I a, sure it is lovely as you said, but you can’t beat HOME and your own ‘fleapit’ as me ma used to say. ENJOY 😉
Hey Derren,
I came to your show on Valentines Day, its the first time my boyfriend and i have seen you live and we were both so impressed!! I loved every minute of the show! I have been telling friends and family that they should go to see one of your shows as i highly recommend it. Thank you for a brilliant Valentines day. I hope to see you again. Maybe next time i will manage to get on stage. haha
Look forward to seeing you again.

Really enjoyed last night, spent the whole night trying to work out how you did half the tricks! I had a theory about your ***SPOILER REMOVED*** that had everyone around convinced I had sussed you out! everyone believed me… even I did… and I was wrong! you got me! haha! cheers for the photo after, wish I had a chance to ask you about alzheimer’s but very much look forward to seeing you again! have fun!
Hey,
thank you very much for a great show, came to watch you saturday night and loved it so much that we brought more people to see you again monday!! felt that saturdays audience were much quieter and ingrossed but we had a fantastic time both times…… i suppose if were honest coming back twice proved 100% that it was infact not the same people up there with you every night and made everything even more mind blowing! thank you for the fudge:) ,signing all our goodies and look forward to seeing you again on next tour! xx
Came to watch the show last night and loved it! We were the family before you went back indoors after signing stuff (I was the one taking far too many photos and wearing dangerous heels).
You not only blew our minds, but you were a true gent afterwards too. 😀
Would come watch the show again… if we could afford it!
xxxxxxxxxx
I think my boyfriend & I have both developed a new crush haha.
We travelled from East London to Torquay for our valentines weekend, in order to see your show on saturday night. And what a show it was!! Really glad my struggle for tickets was successful, and I will be encouraging people to come and see you in the future. Have already started on the task of getting myself another couple of tickets for your show in Bournemouth- dying to see it all again.
Thank you for a great evening, and for being the reason for us staying in Torquay for the weekend. What a beautiful place!

Saw the show on Monday. Was by far the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen. Was amazing. Well done.
I saw the show on friday at swansea grand for my birthday and it was amazing. My head was still spinning the following day. I love the tv shows but to see it live was fantastic. Thank you so much for an incredible experience by far the best live performance I have ever seen.
re: Torquay museum visit – “my paintings and my photographs are the gift shop but my life and my houses are my castle and you can’t have a gift shop without a castle” said David McDermot, living in the style of the 1930’s man, with his taxidermy collection in his bathless bathroom, with Paul Merton (in Europe; Ireland)
Well the first morning of waking up in my own bed was a dreadful plumet to earth after such a fantastic time in Torquay on Sunday. It was a delight to see and meet you again, and you were as lovely as ever. Another amazing performance, thank you again.
