theres a bit in the Watford paper (local to Camelot.. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/news/4592333._Congratulations__for_illusionist_who__predicted__lottery_numbers/ )) doesn’t mention that Derren was not allowed to buy a ticket… after all, anyone who buys a ticket, is quietly cocky that they have the right numbers, and thinks they are going to win, why would Camelot stop someone who is outwardly cocky from buying a ticket… nobody won the jackpot… it was a random sequence of numbers… made to look like a prediction… brilliant illusion but like Craigs link above shows… it is just an illusion… whatever numbers came out of the machine, Derren would have had them on that rack…
lol at all the morons who think he used lasers………
all magic tricks are simple…. its up to the magician to make them look complicated
It WAS camera trickery whether you like it or not…. he did NOT predict those numbers. …and he will DEFINITELY NOT be telling you how it was done tomorrow/today. That is just the next part of the trick….to make you believe it was real. Top magicians do not give away their secrets…
I HAVE gone mad! Please tell me that http://www.forward-splash.com is the waterslide url? I hit on it tonight just to check how the other sites were doing. It read ‘WORSHIP NORG THE ONE TRUE GOD’ hacked by teh profesionalz. I emailed and apparently it ain’t a Brown site. Now are those buggers at Brown Towers messing with what’s left of my simple mind, have they made a wee mistake and the waterslide url has been hacked, or did some hacker do a DB rip off site in the first place? It goes to the CH4 site when clicked on. It’s the site that comes up in my history bar from last week. I might cry. I am half-bald with frustration.
I’m really surprised that we haven’t heard anything from anyone who went to the live projections of the draw.
Where are you all?
Or did something happen to them? Something that will turn last night’s lottery prediction into something much, much bigger?
xoxo
Oh JayKay…. I think it’s time you got some sleep… (says she who has been obsessing about these things for many days before posting.. again obsessively…) if forward-splash was linked to the lottery stunt, which previous posts suggest… maybe its just a way of showing the information, or at least hints… are no longer relevant… it does still link back to the main events page… anyway… definitely time for snooze…
Hello you beautiful blog you. I missed you 😀 I almost joined twitter to compensate for not being able to discuss it all on here. Still might.
Anyway before it crashes again, just want to say a HUGE well done to Derren and his team for pulling off such a fabulous stunt. Really enjoyed it. Derren you’re so good 🙂
However it was done (we’ll soon find out.) it’s got everyone thinking and has generated masses of publicity. Very very clever. Great fun trying to work it out. Can’t wait until tonight to get the answers.
x
@JayKay- Hi, 🙂 , I don’t think it’s a genuine hack. If it was wouldn’t they stop it going to the Events page or Phillis and the team would have mentioned it by now? Not sure why but it still feels Derren Brownesque but that could be because everything seems to have been Derren Browned at the moment 😉 Maybe Norg means something. Hmmm… Strange.
@JayKay
Hello there 🙂 was quite annoying not to be able to get onto this thing for a while (which shows just how much (or little) of a life I have, lol)
Funny that 🙂
However it doesn’t appear to be a genuine hack really, why would they still link the picture back to channel 4 instead of back to some warez site? Odd.
I found a ‘norg’ reference on wiki.
It also has been referenced to stand for “Natural Order of Realistic Gameplay”
Before I get all tangled up in yet another ‘hunt’ that’ll lead me to drawing a wrong conclusion again… I’d best head to bed.
I hear it’s good to do it once every day 🙂 (probably at better times than I seem to be achieving recently too).
Peace People!
to adc000.
I totally agree with you.. and I’m glad someone shares my views. Derren has claimed that this series could be the biggest thing he’s ever done. Certainly freeze framing/working with the lottery/messing about with computers would be a failure on Derren’s part… a complete scam, which we all know would be a huge anti climax, and you’re spot on when you say that it would reduce viewing numbers for the next three events. He used this event first to draw us in to watch the other 3, not put us off and think ‘what a waste of time’… He’s more intelligent than to freeze frame it. That’s so mediocre. I think we should all have more faith in his intelligence. I hope he stuns us on Friday with his brain capacity yet again and that it’s not something as silly as freeze framing. Can’t w8!
@ JayKay
You are not going mad.
In my opinion, it was a genuine site… they never disputed the fact that it was before.
It had exactly their hall-markings and even had a Derren Brown anagram with-in it.
Perhaps they’re worried that certain people may have seen numbers on the site and used them to place on the lottery (lol…like me… how silly would that be 😛 )
I know in my notes that I made, as to my choice in some numbers and reasons for choosing them, I referenced this site (Foward-Splash). I have sent both Abeo and Phillis the first draft of them.
Perhaps they’re trying to make me look more insane than I really am, lol.
Fun!
Even though I really don’t need any help there.
I don’t think it’s split screen or CGI or lasers, that’s not Derren’s style. A lot of his skill is in dressing up basic tricks to create spectacular effects that can then be given intricate, complex “explanations” that are actually just another part of the act. That’s precisely what’s so unique and entertaining about what he does.
Hmmm…I’ll be watching Friday, but I do wish Derren would go back to making people do weird stuff rather than these “guess the number” stunts. Entertaining enough though. =)
@ JayKay
&
@ Mitch
Whilst the “Fibonacci sequence” may in fact both look and sound appealing in relation to this, I don’t think it’s quite correct. The lotto numbers do not correlate in the sense of A+B=C, B+C=D and so forth.
However, looking into the “Fibonacci sequence” I did notice something I recalled seeing before in relation to “ARG Mathmatics”.
If you look at the equations related to both “ARG” and “Fibonacci number sequence” you’ll notice a symbol that is used in both:
Φ or φ
Hey they came out 😛
This is the “Golden Ratio” and if you look into it on Wiki, I will guarantee one thing, if your brain’s mush now… it’ll become a smooth viscous fluid afterwards lol.
I have my own ideas about the snowflake.
However, I don’t have too good a track record really.
Peace People! 😀
THE ANSWER IS VERY EASY!! There are two possible ways: (1) The numbers on the 6 white balls can be changed immediately by another person so that he/she can just change the number on the white ball right after the announcement of the lottery result one by one. (2) The numbers on the white balls are not exactly the numbers being shown on the white card. These numbers are just some kind of blurred intermediate shape of numbers. Number 2 is clearly not there because the chance of getting all 2-digit numbers is still higher, so Derren avoided to put any single-digit number in the white balls. Illusion Illusion Illusion!!
It is more likely that two snowflakes could become virtually identical if their environments were similar enough
Freezing the left hand side of the screen gets my vote.
Perhaps they are trying to make us think some parts of ‘the events’ are created using this method when really its not-like a misdirection…
cant wait for the events
If it was just the video overlay i’ll be a very sad parrot.
And personally to truly mess with peoples heads I would of held up a toy car painted like a bumble bee; that’d screw with some heads =]
oh please please pleeeeeeeaase post this on youtube as well, like the prediction.
i am willing to anything…no really, anything!!!
(i am good looking by the way)
@ Craig, yes I hope Derren says ‘Yes I am psychic!’
Ah, back on track the site is ..
Wow … the eggs turned back into balls … ?
Snowflakes … fall down and turn to water .. water .. molecules … perfect structures … cold … icey …
you think you have something .. but then you don’t …. structures in structures …. transormation …
This morning I saw a perfect half circled rainbow .. haven’t seen them so beautifull in a long time … and it’s perfect half circled shape …. perfect in its own (not so) simple way … I’m gonna check why we only see them in these shapes … I knew it once .. but it just fell out of my brain as lots of things do when not being reused frequently ..
You are a bad man leaving that snowflake and I could see the bloody menace in your eyes. Good job I love ya.
well he looks a lot less nervous than he did on the live show 🙂
In a sense its not how it was done, but how convincing it looked at the time, which was very and had me wracking my brain which all good tricks should. I think its obvious now that Derren has an invisible friend called ‘Nerred’ who wrote on the balls just before they were revealed…no? Ok I’ll stick with the frozen screen theory.
@JayKay – yeah that’s the same URL, it’s just the site that’s changed.
Have Brown Towers officially debunked the hacked site then? I thought it might just be another twist… if “teh professionalz” really have hacked the site, they’ve been awfully good about it – edit the HTML file to change the background colour, but leave the link pointing to Derren’s site? Bit too polite for most hack0rz…
adc000 I’m with you!
So many people seem to think it’s a simple optical illusion but thats not his style, hes more intelligent than that.
You can get thermal imaging printers small enough to be inside the balls to do that, but thats not very impresive is it? If on friday thats all he has to tell us, it wouldnt be very interesting! Theres definatly more to it.
It is not consistent with his big reputation for Derren Brown to stoop to low camera tricks. I have a different theory.
At the beginning of the illusion we can only see the back half of the balls. Maybe the front halves (with the numbers on them ) are added later after the numbers are announced, but without us being able to see this from our front-on camera angle.
I am thinking the studio back wall is really a fake – a large printed curtain close to the balls with a narrow slot cut in it and a mirror underneath to hide the assistant’s legs. You can actually see the curtain reflected in it. The back half of the balls could be magnetic and be loaded directly from the back. (the one angle we cannot see)
We would not be able to see the slot in the curtain or the back half of the balls being loaded because of some thin black card covering the tops of the balls and blending into the features of the wall. Derren then disposes of this card by slight of hand when his black suit is behind the stand and the card blocking our view is thus invisible to us. It appears like he hides it behind the large white card he is holding. He then puts his hands behind the stand to show that we can see right though the stand and the illusion is complete.
Am too wondering what the snowflake represents… again its another subtle clue to get us all talking about him and questioning what it means… very clever!
As for the “how he did it”…. it seems impossible to be anything other than camera trickery or laser printed balls, etc… but I thought, how is he going to spend an hour explaining this to us, it will be a big let-down… of course we are all thinking its that, but hoping its not… I think the hour will consist of him number-crunching saying he worked out a sequence, etc, but that its so far damn-stretched that no-one will be able to replicate it… but actually, all it really was, is camera trickery/fake balls.
xx
People, don’t get fooled by hints or anything Derren will say. He will say everthing to mislead people 🙂 Set them on the wrong course. If you watched and read everything of what Derren made, then you should know by now that it is not possible to predict the lottery. Don’t mind the snowflake, it’s something to put you on the wrong track. I really lost my faith in Derren with this one. In the beginning, he did those pure stuff with people that was really about mentalism etc. But this and previous year, it seems more about technical features. The big plus is that Derren doesn’t pretend to be psychic. But he does say that there’s no camera trickery or whatsoever involved. For me, Derren is starting to loose his magic. It was all better in the early days. Just my 2cents.
NB: Whats with the new title at the top of the website “All You Ball Are Belong To Us”…. this doesn’t make any sense, its a grammatical nightmare…. is this a clue?
xx
Im sorry but if after all this it was just a camera trick, whats the point? Thats why I highly doubt that. Its too obvious, its too cheap and unless theres a good reason WHY he did it then i doubt it was. Unless it was to prove something which he’ll reveal tonight.
I agree with @mitch.
Either 1) half the camera angle was frozen (with the white balls) was frozen to what was filmed at the beginning.
2) (think this is what @mitch meant) if there was any skill or calculation, he could of adopted the snowflake theory, in that no two snowflakes are identical. In the same concept, no two lottery draws have been identical. As Derren guessed at the start, he would predict at least 5 balls; so for his prediction he has to pick a sequence, or draw, of six balls, with 5 that have rarely or never been drawn together before. LOOOOOONG SHOOOOOOOOT!!!
Count me in as another person who’d love Derren to spend the whole show tonight saying ‘Well, how did I do it? I drew a pentagram on the ground in chalk, summoned Beelzebub, Lord of the Flies, and traded the lives of several innocent creatures for the lottery numbers. Of course, being a cunning devil myself, I managed to get him to accept taxidermy rather than real live innocent creatures. “
I love how on the link JayKay posted (NORG Reference) there is a HTML comment, which is HTML encoded, that points to borderwrenn.wav on the Rapidshare file hosting website. Hahaa.
I’d download it and see what it was if i wasn’t at work 🙁
Is it too much to hope that the reveal will include: “and here’s where we bumped the ball on the end up a little higher – that’ll drive ’em crazy on the internets!”
Any body else think there is anything in the “…watching on a large projector..” comment at the start?
The image of him in front of the telly could be pre-recorded, he is a little late or early with a few comments, If camelot had to start the lottery at a set time, which is possible for a short broadcast, you could work out what times to point at the screen and make comments, ” here come the balls” “heres the draw master” etc (this is all presuming the set up is the same each week (where draw master stands, time press the button) and be pretty accurate. This could also explain the long pause after the bonus had come out, the timing was off?
did he even leave the spot behind the balls?..Notice how when walking to the tv from the balls he makes a strange 180 turn, returning with double step
Hopes this helps you out 😉 I love the way you think in your previous post though.
Perhaps it is to do with temperature. The balls are white because they are frozen. Then in some way heat is applied to melt the numbers in to show the black from underneath the ball.
Or more likely – in that way of not at all likely – Derren just fixed the balls with his cold stare which froze the numbers in.
Derren of course makes black ice as his soul is owned by the devil.
@ScottP that’s certainly what I’m hoping for.
I’ll repeat myself… Watch this video… It was filmed last year, and derren played blackjack in a casino, and managed to predict the value of the card that came next…
The new title is no less grammatically incorrect than the original title, “All your minds are belong to us.” It’s merely a joke. It’s an adaptation of an internet-based meme which derived from a Sega Genesis game called Zero Wing.
The game was produced in Japan, which was then translated into English for UK distribution. During that process, a number of unchecked grammatical errors occurred, including a piece of dialogue from the captain of an invading enemy star ship, “How are you gentlemen!!! All your base are belong to us.”
Since that time, it has been brought into popular usage on the internet in the format, “All your X are belong to us,” where X can be any noun. Now, in internet linguistics, it’s come to signify a sinister takeover of the noun in question.
Ooh.. Nerdy!
When has DB ever used a camera trick to achieve something? the winners in a row ‘trick’ is the closest to a camera trick he has ever done, you dont spend a year working on a “half the screen frozen” trick and the clincher is DB has said that potentially the viewer could do it
I vote LASER PRINTING. coming from the background “equipment”.
If its something else, he’s a better magician than I am a skeptic.
Kudos Derren !!! Thanks for doing so much to help people wake up!
@SomeUrl – see I’m too stupid to work that out. I checked the source code, but I know nowt. That Phyllis Dorris! She swore to me on an email last night it wasn’t them!!! I knew it would be them – with the God theme. I’m an easy target Phillis! I know nowt about code and numbers. I’d like to say I’ll get you back… but I’m not smart enough! I’m spitting now.
– it’s nothing to do with us – ch4 say the same! – sorry! I’ll admit it if you want – does it make a difference? 🙂
@SomeUrl – it appears to be the same wav file as before. I think.
Frozen balls, what was I thinking? Light sensitive crystals on the balls. Now that’s got to be it. Like those crappy t-shirts you could write your name on with a torch.
Now I’m in the guessing game I need to be put out of my missery.
I’m expecting the revelation to be really unexpected (because….well that’s Derren we’re talking about!) eventhough some “theories” make sense….I personnely thought that it could be a mix betweek a video/image trick (frozen images – hence the snow flake) and something more “psychological” or “mathematical”.
And now Derren says “Speculation this morning fantastic. Lasers, split screens, tiny LED readouts in the balls. I am loving today.” and it sounds like all this is wrong, then. So no frozen images…
Well anyway, GREAT job, as usual. And it really makes us thinking (“be obsessed” would probably suit better)…I’m losing my mind over it, this is so exciting (and also frustrating when you don’t live in the UK and can’t see all that live!) !!!
Thank you Derren & crew 🙂

@Sue, don’t try to find things that aren’t there. “All your ball are belong to us” is an old internet phenomenon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_your_base_are_belong_to_us
Hopes this helps you out 😉 I love the way you think in your previous post though.
@ScottP that’s certainly what I’m hoping for.
I’ll repeat myself… Watch this video… It was filmed last year, and derren played blackjack in a casino, and managed to predict the value of the card that came next…
