The Science of Attraction is the sequel to the BAFTA nominated Science of Scams web series.

Introduced by Derren Brown and presented by Kat Akingbade and Charlie McDonnell the website acts as the hub for a number of entertaining and informative experiments about the psychology, biology and unwitting judgements that explain why we are attracted to each other.

Poets have swooned over it since the invention of the written word; singers started crooning about it even before that time. It is a central theme in our daily lives, from the books we read to the people who make our hearts beat a little faster. It’s what “makes the world go ’round.” For the most part, attraction remains an unsolved mystery. No definitive method exists to calculate or predict to whom we will be attracted. The media constantly tries to tell us how we should look, what is attractive, what products we should buy and what clothes we should wear to be more attractive, there are books on chat up techniques and rules about dating and now science is tackling the subject. Recent experiments involving everything from sweaty T-shirts to facial symmetry have started to piece together some of the clues to this enormously complex phenomenon and in this series we’ll explore the scams and the science behind attraction.

Each video contains experiments that test theories about the science of attraction. Lively, entertaining and insightful these experiments are based on the most recent research that has been carried out on the science of attraction. Do psychological strategies espoused by self-help gurus and dating experts really work? Is it really possible to use body language, NLP and other psychological tricks to make yourself appear more attractive? All of these questions and more are investigated at

Very much looking forward to watching these episodes. If they’re anything like the Science Of Scams ones then they should be really interesting.
I just think that attraction comes down to individuality, we all see beauty in difference faces and traits. But I shall be fascinated to see what these videos show us. 🙂

the physical attraction is not really a mystery–a big part of it is symmetry. the greeks knew that…check out their sculptures, which are considered the apotheosis of physical beauty.

I just wish someone could explain to me why the majority of men that I’m attracted to are handsome intelligent gay men?! Speaking (or typing) as a straight woman, does this mean I’m doomed to be single forever seeing as I seem to prefer the most unobtainable men?

Aaron (The U.S. Version) says:

One could only hope that it would eradicate all the NLP and PUA nonsense. I followed that stuff for years, thinking that I wasn’t “doing it right” and ended up…well, not quite empty handed but I certainly didn’t have a life teeming with women. Influence can be a powerful thing, and I have seen some PUA guys personally pull some outrageously attractive women… only to lose them days or weeks later when the girl saw through the fog of routines and fake personality. It’s far more attractive to work on being your best self, your authentic self than it is to rely on gimmicks. Scot McKay at X and Y communications has some of the best info on the web about what it really takes to become more of the man you already are and why that’s infinitely more attractive than magic and hypnosis.

Daren, we all have basic needs for good health;. Food, Exercise, Sleep, Learning, Socializing (briefly discussed in SOA). I, like others, am dysfunctional on several levels of experience and understanding of how to become my best Me.

With all the social power struggle and cultural brainwashing (with subliminal persuasion) it is difficult to find a way to the best me (or if religious, the person I was meant to be) I would be nice to have a mentor on that path (even from an almost Barrister trained to the art of altering reality)

Multiple failures in our lives have led to appathy & depression. I encourage you to make ‘simple’ exercise, nutritional, or skill learning videos with your love and wizardry which enforce good habits (and possibly correct bad habits). Thanks for your dedication.
