I can’t wait… so excited i think a little bit of wee just came out
Don’t you just hate it when someone makes a geeky comment about the accuracy of something? Well too bad, here goes! 🙂 (As originally tweeted):
The blood spray doesn’t match blunt force trauma. It’s also too high if they were laying down when struck, or low if stood up.
Thank-you and goodnight.
Rest assured, I will be very keenly watching! As I do every episode!
Literally gonna sit in my pants, watch this and have a quality time.
What if the blunt force of the mallet forced out some head-juice out of a previous head wound, possibly caused by trepanning to ‘let the demons out’?
For the first time I get to see you in High Definition! I hope to see every hair in your little beard.
I’ve been looking forward to this all week! 😀 Let the fun begin!
Honor x
@Mike Rawlings – lol, there’s always one!
That’s an epic photo of Derren. Love it. Really looking forward to this!
BETTER BE GOOD OR IM GONA HURT YA
Cannot wait! Loved “The Gameshow” experiment; I was watching, thinking it was live as I missed the first twenty minutes so was completely horrified at the show’s twist! Looking forward to tonight’s show, love you Derren, you’re brilliant! 😀
^_^ I am loving it so far! Well done, Can’t wait to see the rest!-
Lol on the look on Jody’s face when Tim came in! ^_^
I feel so sorry for this guy, messing with his head just a bit too much. He might worry that when Derren’s not around anyone could do it. I love Derren but I’m worried for this nice guy!
This is not entertainment. Is it ethical to put someone through this? How would you feel thinking you had murdered someone? What are the long term consequences? Do we know?
I know this happens and we proabably need research on it, but not for the benefit of mass entertainment.
Great show ! which country house is used in the show ?
Dub-master Brown uses GarageBand shocker!
Really enjoying this one – a real trip!
So what’s this so far a just feel sorry for the guy, what’s gonna happen afterwards to sort him out? It’s cruel? Interesting but cruel
This isn’t ethical at all. I’m in tears. Why not conduct such experiments on people who aren’t nice. I hope you checked to see this person didn’t suffer from a condition like OCD before you conducted this experiment. The first time I’m quite disgusted to see one of your shows.
I’m wondering how this programme can possibly be considered ethical. I find it grotesque to see so many people working to undermine the psyche and moral being of a person who is completely out of the loop, no matter how it may be resolved in the end. Hidden camera things are often a tired joke anyway- this is perverse. No real professional would ever do this to someone.
I’m so glad you stepped in. That was unbearable. I’m so glad he’s laughing.
WOOW! First episode I watched. Just blew me away!
Amazing really brilliant. Hope that poor bloke has the anchors lifted and the feelings of that guilt removed.
Much better episode this evening! I didn’t like last week’s one much, but this one was good!
I think Darren Browne is a disgrace. Who does he think he is playing with people’s minds like this. That poor man on telly tonight. The agony he is going through thinking he has killed someone. I strongly strongly disagree with this so called TV programme. It is not entertainment to watch someone suffer. I really really think Darren Browne should not be allowed to experiment with the human mind for television or for any reason. I will never watch Darren Browne again. Never
Was actually amazing. Best episode everrrrr! x
Really concerned about the ethics of tonights show. I think you should hold shows of this nature to similar standards of all experiments. This did not do that as the consequences of this were potentially serious. You have serious and important questions to answer Derren.
this was disturbing…i cant help thinking that this could have reprocussions later on for this poor guy…i really hope he lives his life without any after thoughts ….past entertainment me yhinks….
Amazing!!!
I think it went a bit too far, messed with his head a little too much, this guy is going to be so paranoid from now on. Also, I’m a little sceptical as 1. he slept in his dressing gown? a very small detail, but someone who was drunk would just fall into bed, not get into a dressing gown to go to sleep, and two, if he had thought he had done it, then surely he would be covered in blood? I wouldn’t think I had murdered someone without any type of evidence.
@Upset:
Firstly, it’s Brown, not Browne.
Secondly, did you not see that Jody was really happy to have taken part?! People apply to take part in Derren’s shows, there’s nothing cruel about it!!
It was so good felt sorry for the guy and felt bad for him habing to feel guilty
I LOVE DERREN BROWN T.V SHOWS THEY MAKE MY DAY! cant wait till next weeks upset its the last one of the experiments
“Upset”-if you didnt enjoy it dont watch it I found it very intresting and want to do psychology at uni!!
xxxxxxxxxxxxx
I’ve seen This episode. awesome just been speechless. …!!!
People need to realise that people willingly volunteer for these programmes. The volunteers are either great fans of Derren, in which case they know anything can happen, or if they just apply for it without knowing anything about him then what the hell are they doing? Derren chooses people who want to be there. There is no other way to do it. It’s not worth getting upset about programmes like this – there are far worse things on television – X Factor and any other reality programme where people are put through terrible moments just for our entertainment. They are far worse, they’re on weekly and affect many people. Don’t think Derren will miss Mr Upset.
Excellent show. I know a few senior police officers and they have spent a good amount of interview time with the innocent guilty trying to help them understand that guilt is not always enough to convict. It is far more common that anyone would imagine.
I’m sure ‘Darren Browne’ will be horrified that Upset will never watch him again. Will he/she be watching Derren Brown again though?
Derren, that was magnificent – one of the best. Oooohhh what about the long term effects on the guy, he’s just found out that he didn’t murder someone when he thought he might have done – I for one would be absolutely delighted and honoured to be part of the show. Remember he volunteered for it knowing fine well that derren does this sort of stuff so enough of the non-ethical nonsense. If it’s too much for you i suggest you watch The Human Centipede for a bit of a giggle.
I must say that I agree (ever so slightly,) with some of the above comments talking about how it was cruel to really mess with Jody like that, but I also know that Derren absolutely wouldn’t have done it if he didn’t think Jody was able to cope. He’s always been very careful and ethical in the past. Also, I think that the overall point of the show was to highlight the fact that society, church, dominating parents etc. are always controlling us like that, making us feel guilty for no reason and manipulating our behaviour, and we were MEANT to feel just a teeny bit disgusted. It wasn’t all for pure entertainment value (as some people keep saying…..Although the mock funeral procession WAS, I think. Just a little bit much there 😉 )
Best episode so far. Really thought provoking.
Oh dear Beki appears to have watched the show but has not understood a single thing about it! magnificent
This is a dreadful programme; television at it’s worst. How can this guy Jody trust anyone again especially his girlfriend. Nothing good comes out of hurting people like this.
Amazing! Derren, you’re a fabulous evil genius. I thought the Trick or Treat episode with the girl electrocuting the kitten was cruel, now that seems tame..! Jody took it so well, what a nice guy. Fascinating show – I was glued to the screen, while munching a whole packet of Trebor mints.. if my teeth fall out after this series, I’m holding you responsible 🙂
Loved the use of CLUEDO character names. Jody seemed to take it well when he found out it was a setup. Really felt for him when he thought he’d done it, hope he has no lasting effects. Last weeks Gameshow was a copy of a well known psychological experiment. Looking forward to next week.
this guy did not willingly take part in this episode….he applied for something else then was turned down…he was SET UP for the murder episode
Always amazing! It’s not just about entertaining us, the public, it’s fascinating to see the capabilities of human beings and the human mind. Things other species aren’t even capable of. Just wish Derren could teach me to have an iodetic memory!
Derren, I think you are so amazing! I’d love to meet you, although you would probably make me forget it.
To everyone who is complaining it is unethical etc, no one forces these people to apply for Derren’s Shows. Yes they are very riske and at times a little uncomfortable to watch but that is just how Derren Brown is.
The people who apply for his shows should know exactly what he is like and what they may potentially be put through so if they didn’t want to do it, they wouldn’t apply. And further to this, there are literally thousands of people who apply for the show and they pick just one person after extensive psychological testing. Not just to ensure they have picked someone who they can manipulate but to ensure the person they pick will be psychologically strong enough to cope with it.
I’m with Ann.
Additionally 2 more points:
1. If you can coerce someone into admitting a murder they didn’t commit you can convince someone that they’ve been glad to participate in a TV show
2. It doesn’t matter what the eventual outcome is, it matters that there was a genuine potential to cause harm.
Derren, if you were an artist you would win the Turner, because your work is more shocking than any dead animal. If you were a psychologist you would be a Cambridge professor for your work on persuasion.
But what you are doing is much more important – shining a laser on our justice system, showing how easy it is to persuade people to commit crimes they don’t remember, confess to crimes they didn’t commit, become brilliant marksmen or cruel bullies – perhaps even set fire to themselves on aeroplanes…? Your exposure of how incredibly suggestible we are, and your hints at miscarriages of justice are incredibly important. I hope the message sinks in. Thanks.
Great show, I love the bit where you made the lady at the dog track pay out on a losing betting slip. Keep up the good work, and to those that were disgusted, why watch? Nobody really cares about you other than laughing at your petty comments, hahaha.
Cruel? this is an experiment on the human race, and thats why people find this disturbing and cruel because it plays on our emotions and feelings and its a normal average joe that is being experimented on. Mr Brown clearly is a very talented man and an expert practitioner in his field and very entertaining. As such the test subject would not be left with any long term harm or effects if any at all. Those of you who say this is disturbing and cruel say this purely because Mr Brown is a unique person, there is nobody in the media or TV that does what he does and this is why it shocks you, its never been seen before. He is so unique that after all this time there has not been anybody else copying what he does. Mr Brown i take my hat off to you. FANTASTIC!!!!
There is potential to cause harm when crossing the road. I am never crossing the road again.
I have always enjoyed Derren Browns shows. However, this series is making me feel very uncomfortable. We’re watching it on Channel 4+1. My son has left the room a while ago as he couldn’t bare to watch any more. Of course our reactions may be the whole point of this series of Experiments.
I get sick of reading peoples comments about how can Derren fo these things to individuals. Ok here it is plain and simple. Apply to be a part of Derrens shows = expect the unexpected.
Nobody is forced to be a part of his shows they ain’t exactly being hypnotised to apply. Every person who submits the application must realise what they are potentially getting them into lol.
If I ever had the chance to be a part of one of Derrens shows then I would certainly be ready for anything, well maybe not consciously but you get my drift 🙂 Derren keep doing what your doing, because everything you do is awesome 😀
