MY WEEK OFF
Every year I get a week off to go abroad and think about work. We have just returned from staying in and around Lisbon as guests of some wonderful friends. Here I am relaxing – look at me all relaxed – outside the gorgeous hotel that I put us up in, and the other picture is of me with some chick in a hotel room. Decide for yourselves who is cuter.
Lisbon is rather charming, though Coops wouldn’t have liked it as the pavements are not made for skating. Above all, it’s such a treat to be looked after by very generous hosts. It makes me want to be a more generous host. And thus loveliness is spread. Kindness is all. Nice to be back.

Portuguese … we have a few of those at our lab and Maikel my boss learned the language just to impress cute portuguese chicks (they laugh .. I’m not sure if that was the aimed result …).
So that’s how you look when relaxed .. hm … where’s the friend … I’d gotten you way more relaxed … hahaha … (yes, ofcourse I wanted to see your partner .. to do the math .. we female like doing the math ..)
We can give you a few tips and tricks on good hostmenship … this message was a good attempt .. very good Derren .. very nice. Makes us happy and we feel loved .. ahum ..

Meh, no contest. The birdie is tiny and fluffy and cuddly. Sorry, nobody could compete with that! Apart from a kitten, that is. Kittens are simply the epitome of cute.

Lisbon: one of those places on my Must Visit Someday list. Got put on this list a few years back after reading an excellent novel set there. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the book as so much other variable reading matter has passed through my brain in the meantime that both author & title escape me. Sorry.
Chick photo: Derren, are you deliberately angling for soppy fangirl/boy comments with this? “who is cuter”? So blatant!
In fact the picture reminds me of one my parents have of me aged 1 with a chick at San Francisco Zoo. Similarly, both myself and chick are exceptionally cute apart from my massive black eye acquired a couple of days previously when my 2 year old cousin swung a tray round and whacked me in the eye.
I’ll just take this opportunity to wish compliments of the season to you Derren and also to everyone else in DB Blogland.
Currently have the Disney song “Be our guest” running through my head. We all could do with a sunny, deserted harbour front to whittle away the the hours. It’s nice to have time to refresh. Hope you’re over your cold. Wish you well in the New Year!
For your next paltry week off, I would recommend Bilbao. A bit chick-lite, but it has the Guggenheim and other lovely stuff. And they speak Basque, the most impenetrable language in Europe.
