Did you stick?
Well, there we go. Just got back.
I couldn’t say before the film that it wouldn’t work on all of you, as expectation really helps it work. Apologies if the film didn’t work on you, and congrats if it did. We had about 50, 000 calls come in on the night. Even though clearly some of those 50k wouldn’t have stuck and were just phoning to mention their genitals, those clever people who understand how to calculate viewing figures (that’s done, amazingly, from a group of only 1000 people with special buttons on their TVs) and the like reckon that we are probably looking at about 10 times that number in terms of people actually affected. So perhaps 1/2 a million of you were affected – hopefully we’ll get a better sense of how many in the days to come. I say round it up to a BILLION though – it has a nice ring to it. But ask around, you should all know someone who it worked on (if it didn’t work on you).
Two people stuck in the TV gallery too, which was a cheap laugh for all of us.
Thank you so much for watching, I hope you enjoyed the show. Next week, pen and paper ready please.
x
I recorded it and watched it this morning – judging mb the FB comments I really did not think that it would work but I well and truly got stuck. It was the most bizarre feeling. My hand and arms got stuck to my thighs but I managed to get them loose after about a minute and it took a further minute or so before I was able to stand up. I still feel a bit shaky and heavy but all in all, it was awesome. Didn’t work for my son or boyfriend though, although my son did admit that he did fight it and made the concious decision to not be stuck.
Well, I got stuck.
In fact, I didn’t just get stuck; I got ridiculously stuck.
I was writhing around on the sofa like a mentally-distressed eel before I could stand up.
And even then, I couldn’t do it for long before I sat down again…
It was really amazing. Well done, Derren!
unfortunatly not, but it was done very well and im not suprised it worked.Well done Derren, what detail you went to, even the adverts were well placed. espechially like the i phone advert with the scrabble board saying STUCK. looking forwad to next week.
sorry if I am taking this too seriously (i am going through a really really bad patch emotionally so its hard to have a sense of humour) But I have been really disapointed by both shows so far. Especially last weeks show that just seemed like one big disaster. I am really hoping that all these shows arent the real main event but lead up to one spectacular reveal. What were all the clues about on the secret websites for a start? Leading everyone on a wild goose chase? I really hope not. And this weeks show-For example- What if one of the people who gave money away couldnt really afford it and let themselves get in financial difficulty because they were easily influenced? How would you feel if on that day you gave £100 to someone who you felt YOU had chosen because of what YOU sensed
…continued.
because of my circumstances at the moment I would feel like I had been made a fool of. I would be angry. And -the “sticking to your sofa” didnt work on me-I didnt like being told at the beginning of the hypnosis that basically if I didnt stick i wasnt open-minded,creative, and some other things that basically told people you are a boring miserable party pooper if you dont pretend to be stuck to your sofa. I find the whole thing really insulting to the audiences intelligence. I just dont get it. Mainly because Derren has told us in previous shows how all the techniques work , about the techniques that are a load of nomsence (psychic group ability eg -lottery), his book revealed a lot of “secrets” so how is anyone supposed to believe any of this, unless your one of the people
It didn’t work on me although I was feeling slightly nauseous between the 3rd and 4th act (may have been down to the chilli and crisps I was chowing though!). I wanted it to work but maybe I was too analytical.
Not convinced the film was much more than a relaxation/mind concentrator tool. Think your use of language prior to the clip and the flashed images of the guy tied to the chair were much more relevant in provoking a compliant state.
Annoyed at all the people on various sites moaning that it didn’t work on them and was all a big con!!! Makes my mind boggle. Don’t they understand anything about what you do at all!
I didn’t get stuck. It made me laugh though. You’re all lying about getting stuck! 🙁
LOL it’s not fair.
I wasn’t sitting in the correct position maybe that stopped it from working. I recorded it but I don’t think I’ll try it again. It’ll only make me feel silly.
continued…………………….. who has never watched a Derren show before or if your one of the people who believe Derren has magic powers and the fact that he denies this is just a cover. I dont understand why there was such a big build up to these events. I think the lottery trick would have been more successful if there wasnt so much publicity before, if it was all kept fairly quiet. Thats the problem with hype it never lives up to expectation. So as I said before-I do hope im wrong and we will be all amazed when we find out whats been really going on. But for the time being- I feel lied to, made a fool of, insulted, deflated, disapointed. Please dont you all start having a go on me if you disagree. I am in a sad place right now.
I’ve enjoyed the two programmes so far. I mean you’re always watchable and good at provoking a discussion.
However, I’m still hoping that there is a bigger story arc connecting the 4 events that will make my jaw drop at your genius, your ability to confound my brain and your audacity.
What I enjoy most about your programmes/stage shows is that for all the misdirection, techniques etc. that I can spot there are always the moment when I go (but how….what the hell…..no way…..how the bluidy hell did he do that then!!!!!!). I haven’t had that moment so far in The Event’s. Will always keep watching though.
It was amazing…i was stuck…i could nt move my wrist or my arms…it was like i was in a trance…your amazing!
I wasn’t stuck initially, although I was so comfortable that I didn’t feel the need to get up.
Later, I went to a club and curiously sustained two mysterious and inexplicable ‘dead-legs’ on my way across the dance floor to the gents. It looked like a silly dance.
Thankyou Derren.
Well,
I’d had a bottle of wine and had just finished reading Derren Browns book; ‘Tricks of the mind’
So I was willing it not to work on me, especially being (slightly) inebriated.
It worked on some of my friends though, and my little brother called to say he was worried that he’d never be able to get up again.
Very well executed Derren Brown.
Oh my god! What a show! I couldn’t have enjoyed it more!
I felt soooo emotional but not scared, I managed to lift my backside just a little, my knees started trembling and the weigh was far too much to bare! Feet glued to the ground. I crushed back on my seat and enjoyed this AMAZING feeling.
Thank you!!!
Me and my boyfriend tried this last night, , we were on a bed, though we still had our feet on the floor and our hands on our laps. At first I didnt feel a thing, but was both extremely tired and the film tripped me up a bit I think! Anyway, after the film i noticed my boyfriend wasnt moving AT all, so i tried to get up – my back was fine I could move it, so i thought it didnt have an affect one me – until I tried to move my bum! My thighs and bum were completely stuck, and I could just about move my legs up. It was absolutely hilarious!!
I felt I could move, btu I just didnt have the willpower to if that makes sense? Anyway I didnt ring up because I got scared lol, but in the toy store bit I did smile to myself and say to my boyfriend ‘have you notied all the giraffes?!’ – Megan Lea x
did’t believe anuything would happen but I was stuck to my chair my arms did not have any power to lift me up
It didn’t work for me sadly. I watched it on youtube and nothing happened. Altough, I am typing this about 10 mins after watching it and my left leg feels really heavy. Is it to do with what I saw?
The Video made me feel really, really odd. I didnt get stuck but my arms and legs felt REALLY heavy, although saying that the first time i tried to stand up i did fall back down again. It did feel as if i couldnt THINK of standing up though, it was completely alien! lol
Excellent stuff, I got stuck but my mate didn’t, the 50/50 success rate you mentioned! I just let myself flow with it and wanted it to work, brilliant show
Just watched the show on Sky+ Loved it. Didnt get stuck per se, but for about 3 seconds I couldnt move at all. Was weird. Loved the show, am a huge fan of your work. Well done Derren. Love you xx :o)
My friend stuck. I really wanted to stick. We watched it around four times, just to make sure. It’ll probably be around 10 times by the end of today. It was actually, very funny. (:
For me, I could just about get off the chair but then it was like i was being forced back into my seat..was totally wierd 😀 Everytime i tried to get up i got so far off my seat, i would try and stand up properly and i just couldn’t..and then it felt like i was being pushed AND pulled back into my seat!!! my brother (Who,i might add, it didnt work on) thought it was hilarious. 🙂
My brother and I were both watching – I got up and promptly fell over backwards whilst my brother couldn’t move until the blue screen came on, he said it was really difficult for him to remain upright even afterwards.
Unfortunately not. Perhaps my mind is too strong? I was gutted. Sitting with others I didn’t stick which I believed was distraction but I tried on my own and nothing. I let myself go and didn’t fight anything.
Hi!:D
i watched the show last night 3 times! 😛
At first i wanted to get stuck so badly, i didnt 🙁 but after the vid, felt like a zombie! i just sat there, not moving, not really hearing anything. but then i got out of it.
The 2nd time I brought the sofa right up to the t.v screen, pitch black… and my 13 year old sister got stuck. SHE SERIOUSLY COULDNT GET UP! she said she felt like something was grappling down on her neck, and she couldnt get up. she couldnt get her bum out of the seat. she tried so hard. it was amazing.!! 😀
Then when i did it the 3rd time, for a momenti couldnt get up! 😛 but then when i did soon after, my legs felt weak, and i had to sit down. it was like i couldnt stand up for long before automatically returning to my seat.
Derren Ur The Best <3
Hi Derren
Well last night was bizarre to say the least. We followed your instructions and made sure we were sitting the correct way, the experiment didn’t work for us but it did have a really strange effect on me. When the film started I couldn’t stop blinking. You said the film would last a minute but actually seemed much longer, during that time I was struggling to keep my eyes open. When you told everyone to stand, I managed to stand up but had to close my eyes and then I couldn’t open them again for 20 minutes. What was that all about?
Didn’t work for me I’m afraid.
Although, I didn’t watch the entire thing so it’s either that… or for some reason I’ve become impervious to your magic 😮
It is a kind of magic really isn’t it 😉
I do actually wonder however, if any of my ambitious ideas for the future have actually been mine to begin with now! Hmmm.
I haven’t actually been ill for ages… only self inflicted crap mainly.
Been updating my blogs recently for anyone interested… many probably wont be.
Last time… da b*stards!
LOL 😀
I know, I know… it’s cryptic, but some will understand it… I believe.
😉
Peace, Love and Harmony People!

P.S. I gather I was right with regards to the astronomy now 😉
Really funny, did stick for a moment, felt really heavy and almost couldn’t feel my limbs! strange sensation but good fun. Didn’t last long and I managed to force myself up quite quickly. Amazing – the power of the mind!
Unfortunately I didn’t get stuck, I was hoping it would but a;; that happened was that my legs shook a tiny bit when I moved over the other side of the room. Can’t wait for next week, your shows are fantastic.
I did and it was ace. I didnt think it would work on me but my legs felt very heavy and i couldnt stand up for about a minute, a very strange feeling.
I am really loving the events so far cant wait to see what else you have in store.

I was at a sleepover last night and three of us tried it, none of us stuck but the two people who were too scared to do it kept talking to us and distracting us. But I watched it again on my own and it worked!
Derren you are an epic legend and love you soo much!!!!
xxx
I could hardly get up my legs were quite shaky and unsteady..i felt like i had to keep my knees bent!!
My dad thought i was a nutcase however:D
Thanks..again Derren..could you be any more awesome!!!??:D
I got stuck for around 10 seconds…mainly because when my friends on both sides of me stood up immediately they told me that they’d had a bet on me to bet I would be the one out of us all to stick as I’m quite naive. This shook me out of the ‘haze’ somewhat. I didnt feel like it was absolutely impossible to get unstuck, perhaps like the same effect of a magnet, it just takes some effort. Maybe it was just a comfortable sofa…
hey, the show was amazing!
i got partially stuck, i couldn’t stand for more than two seconds and i couldn’t straighten my legs at all
my legs felt so achy and heavy
well done! 😀
I got stuck. I could move my back….but i could not move my legs, and I definately could not get up. I got a bit panicked though, and started desperately trying to get up….until the messages came up on screen, then I calmed down again.
It was a wierd sensation, I can tell you that.
I didn’t expect all that much from the film, to be honest, and even as it finished I had the impression that I’m completely fine because my arms and back were perfectly functional. But when I tried to get up fully, my legs felt like they haven’t been used in 3 days!
Real cool stuff, well done!
i didnt get stuck myself, but my sister couldn’t move at all. She said it felt like she was glued from her back and shoulders, but she could move her arms.
Excellent show and absolutly hilarious for me! 🙂
xxxx
The position in which Derren asks you to sit makes it very hard to stand up if you don’t change it before trying. 🙂 It’s probably one of the tricks he used to make it all work for some of us (for me it didn’t).
Didn’t work for me, but i think because i watched it on channel 4 +1 it was nearly 11 o’clock and was tired so i wasn’t concentrating fully. Looking forward to next week
No stickage here! *Sulk*
Maybe because I had to watch in low resolution, on VHS!
I did choose the giraffe toy though, but only because it reminded me of Derren’s stuffed baby giraffe, from his taxidermy collection!

Hi Derren,
Nope I didn’t stick I did feel slightly odd though…. Just wanted to add something though – the “sound” played to the people in the studio which “won’t affect viewers at home” made me feel anxious, nervous, expectant and generally quite uneasy. Was this something expected?
Well I got stuck in the trailer for the bloody thing, so it was no surprise that it worked on me! First time just my bum was stuck to the seat, couldn’t get up until the blue screen flashed up. Watched the repeat later that night and ALL of me got stuck – feet, back, legs, arms, the lot! The arms wore off after a few minutes but I still couldn’t move anything else! My partner didn’t stick (even though I think he secretly wanted to), but my brother called after he’d watched it and he’d been stuck for about five minutes. Weird thing was, he didn’t think it had worked until he tried to stand up! LOL. His partner and house mate didn’t stick either. I guess that’s what me and my bro get for being ‘talanted, balanced and creative minded people’ 😛 Derren – you are amazing! More soon plz
I watched it with my Family and we were all looking forward to it, but sceptical. We were told to stand up and the rest of them did so, it was at that point I passed out. Over the next few minutes there was absolute panic , as they realised I was not having them on. I remember waking up and I was aware of what had happened, I felt ill and lay down. When I realised my arm was stuck fast on the settee I began to panic. I felt numb and for some reason I was unable to talk and as I was breathing strange my Son rang an ambulance. I was aware though, I was trying to deep breath to calm me down. I followed the instructions and the ambulance was cancelled, but the tingling took about an hour to go completely.
Never been hypnotised before. Why such a severe reaction, what happened?
I’m so in awe of you! I tried it twice but didn’t stick… my dad did but he wasn’t impressed – he was determined not to haha! he was sure he wouldn’t be – sucker! i loved the show though and i’m totally watching next week 🙂
Hey Derren! The shows last night was amazing, as usual. Sadly I never stuck, but my friend who I was watching with did! I have to say it was very funny to watch her, she couldn’t believe it. Maybe because she seems a bit secptical before hand. She too experienced the same sensations of pin and needles in her hands and he feeling of being very heavy.
You never fail to amaze Derren. Can’t wait for next week!!

Hi Derren
Another suberb show, having experienced your abilities first hand although I didnt stick I did have some very similar feelings and sensations; fast heart rate, tingling in fingers and up my arms, nausea and a huge feeling of wanting to cry. I am not sure why. As always loved the show. x
I stuck. My mother walked in on me and found it hilarious.
It took me ages to get my back off the sofa and then I couldn’t move my legs. Excellent.
And I felt like I’d just ran a marathon, my legs were that heavy.
Awesome show 🙂 And kinda scary when you think about it!
I was totally glued, i could feel the pressure in my neck as i tried to get my head off the top of my chair even my hands were glued to my lap, at one point i got my head away from the chair but it felt horrible so i put it back. and i was watching it on my computer on the internet.
Haha I just had an idea, I’m gonna get a friend and hug whilst watching this to see if we get stuck together 😛
Hi Derren.
I didn’t get stuck to my chair and neither did a group of friends who were watching the show at a different house. But whilst I didn’t get stuck, I did experience “something” though. When the film started to play I felt an almost uncontrollable desire to giggle. I did sit there for about 10-15 seconds just giggling away to myself as I saw the abstract shapes dance around on the screen. I also had the sensation of “the penny dropping” just prior to the giggling. Was very strange!
But as always, a great and entertaining show! Can’t wait for next week.
PS, Derren, if you could see your way clear to ‘influencing’ Joe Calzaghe to pop round to my house in the not too distant future to practise his Strictly Come Dancing moves with me in the buff, it would be much appreciated!
Much love
xx
