Did you stick?
Well, there we go. Just got back.
I couldn’t say before the film that it wouldn’t work on all of you, as expectation really helps it work. Apologies if the film didn’t work on you, and congrats if it did. We had about 50, 000 calls come in on the night. Even though clearly some of those 50k wouldn’t have stuck and were just phoning to mention their genitals, those clever people who understand how to calculate viewing figures (that’s done, amazingly, from a group of only 1000 people with special buttons on their TVs) and the like reckon that we are probably looking at about 10 times that number in terms of people actually affected. So perhaps 1/2 a million of you were affected – hopefully we’ll get a better sense of how many in the days to come. I say round it up to a BILLION though – it has a nice ring to it. But ask around, you should all know someone who it worked on (if it didn’t work on you).
Two people stuck in the TV gallery too, which was a cheap laugh for all of us.
Thank you so much for watching, I hope you enjoyed the show. Next week, pen and paper ready please.
x
I didn’t get stuck, but felt very odd for a couple of minutes before the film started, I got pins & needles then I felt quite light headed. A brilliant show though 🙂
I got stuck, very weird feeling, I was able to move my back forward off the sofa, but my legs were well and truly stuck for about 5 mins and felt heavy for about 15 mins after I got up. Loved the show, looking forward to next week.
Didn’t get stuck, which was disappointing but not exactly surprising. I seem to be utterly immune to suggestion. Presumably this means that my dream of being cured of my phobia of frogs by one of Derren’s ilk will never come to fruition. Most upsetting. On the other hand, at least I won’t be goose-stepping around doing DB’s evil bidding when he finally decides to take over the world through the telly. But then, that probably just means I’ll be reported to the authorities and disposed of. Ah well, you play the cards you’re dealt.
Right first off, i CANNOT be the only one who needed the toilet JUST before it started. me and mates watched together, and just before it started, we were all like ‘does anyone else need to pee’ it was just crazy, THEN when it started i could NOT stop laughing, we were all like ‘ha ha ha ha’ cos we’re just THAT cool. then when it had finished i was stuck, like seriously STUCK i couldn’t even move my back, and one of my friends was like jabbing at my leg and i couldn’t feel it at all, my ENTIRE body from the neck downwards was numb, i was TERRIFIED. then when it told me to lean forward, i was like, ‘yherr, that would be FANTASTIC, if i could’ 😛 i eventually got unstuck after about 10 minutes. one of my friends started crying when it was on. seriously strange. but cool as anything 😀
Didn’t get stuck and i’ve watched it loads using Sky+. Have tried all kinds of environments (lights on/off, sitting close to tv, different chairs, glasses on/off etc) and have relaxed into it. I so wanted it to work on me! Feel totally left out. Why doesn’t it work on some people? I have to know!! Love the shows, though! Like the X-files – I want to believe!!
I watched it twice and did’nt stick either time 🙁 well, to be fair, the first time i had to stop watching coz it seriously freaked me out…my heart slowed right down and it just felt like summat bad was gonna happen :p)
but the second time i stayed throughout and felt nothing at all…
i’m not at all skeptical i love derren’s work i just didn’t feel it 🙁 can’t wait til the third event tho
It would be nice to know but the chance of getting a reply is so small it isn’t worth the effort working out.
I did feel stuck, however when trying to get up I seemed to only be using my stomach muscles to stand up. I wasn’t aware at first but I saw others on the screen who seemed to only be using their center to stand. After giving it a few moments thought I was able to feel for my leg and arm muscles and was able to stand.
Is this anything to do with what was done? Your body neglected your other muscles which would logically let you stand and made you think you were stuck because you were trying to stand with useless muscles? or am I just thinking into it too much.
Dan
I didn’t stick at all, but then I didn’t want to. No great mystery there. Humans have been able to delude themselves since the start!
I posted earlier that I didn’t stick at all but I watched it again (this time with no distractions) and I got completely stuck! I couldn’t stand up or lift my feet!
It was such a weird feeling… I’m so happy it worked second time! 😀
Thanks Derren! Can’t wait for next week. 🙂
I wasn’t stuck.
I look after my dad who is severlerly disabled and has great difficulty standing up. I believe I could perform the same trick on friends… will try it sometime.
Seems like a very simple trick… dunno how he does the other stuff though!
Did not stick- just felt an urge not to even try and get up. My wife got up almost straight away then I hesitated about standing for a few minutes because I felt relaxed and happy about sitting. Then convinced myself to get up and just had slight resistance on lift off. Really felt like standing when he said to later tho, but resisted that urge too
For anyone who says there was nothing in the film, and it was all in the program shown before the film – WRONG!
I had to download the program and watch it yesterday, and I have to admit to skipping forwards to the part right before the film began. The first time I watched it I could feel my lower body sinking into the chair, and there was something in the music that made a not unpleasant feeling travel down my spine, pushing me into the chair. When the film ended I could lean right forward in my chair and move my arms. At first I couldn’t stand up, but I told myself that I could, and I did.
Disappointed I watched it again. This time I couldn’t move at all, not even my head! I sat in the same position for at least 15 mins. which, as anyone who knows me will tell you, is unheard of!
Ahhh, that makes so much more sense now. i really wanted it to work for you. I’m glad it worked on so many people. My arms felt heavy for a while but not really for long. As you just said, expectation helps. I didnt think i was susceptible to this stuff, so didnt totally believe i would stick. maybe thats a reason why i didnt.
would watching it again, with a different opinion towards my own susceptibility make it more likely i would stick?
Hello, I got a little stuck , like Vikki green on the previous post (great vid btw) she explained that round her knees felt heavy, like someone was sitting on them, my fingers and toes went all tingly, this began before the video started, when Derren was talking us into it. this is what I believe was the actual “subliminal†message, not the video.
also there was a heavy theme of sitting in the show, seats and the flashing image of the man tied to the chair and in the segment of the show when they showed the test subjects and the actual video segment, you did not see anyone standing only Derren’s head talking to you, and a nice head it is too! lol
great show cant wait till next week
I tried it a few times and it didnt work, though was taking breaks during the program. Can i assume that the film had less to do with the effect, rather, we were being primed throughout the program and the full program has to be watched uninterupted.
It didn’t work on me, I really wanted it to as well! 🙁 made me feel very heavy and extra lazy though which lasted till morning! Quite relaxing acctualy 🙂
My boyfriend was stuck for about a minute though 🙂
Well done D! x
I was stuck until I realised it was only because i had my hands on my lap and my sofa was too deep to stand up from with assistance from my hands. I wonder how many people this applied to? One i took my hands off my lap, it was easy….
Hey Derren
works on me every time.. albeit to varying degrees.
thanks for that experience and cannot wait see what you do next!
P.S the flash frames were a nice touch, but not conducive to the experiment i guess?
i’m a video editor myself and sometimes throw in a flash frame for some ‘wtf was that?’ reactions 🙂
I didn’t stick….but that could have been due to my boyfriend making me laugh!
I did feel really, really relaxed afterwards though. Felt like my whole lower body had just had a lovely massage. The effect lasted a while, too.
Great show! 🙂
Hm, the other post about whether sticky or not .. the picture … who ever would dare to have a seat on that chair ? .. Oh my, doesn’t Derren look like a very devious severe .. erm .. yeah, what? .. Observant ? Someone who is going to discipline your not so devious self? Imagine .. coming into a room .. and there is that man .. partially in the shades … stating .. ‘have a seat’ …. It’s as if arrived at a planet with aliens … I def. would not feel as if I was going to trust them for sure … no way … So you would make up a schema in a split second I guess … How we can lure that man into .. erm ….not seeing me … I must disguise …
Good that Derren does not really look like that huh … or .. erm … does it make you wonder …. who is in the back … hm?
Must admit, I am a wee bit scared to watch it again and try it with no one about, but I do want to give it another go. The bloody Indian take-away arrived just before the hypno bit on Fri night and we were at friends’, so conditions weren’t ideal. Plus my poor partner, who’s never been hypnotised before, got defensive and giggly because his legs were losing feeling and I got defensive myself too and started to get all itchy down my calves beforehand, as my wee inner voice fought to stay in control. Having said that, my eyes were shut and I was slumped forward and away with the fairies just with Derren talking. I think I might conk out, nevermind stick to the sofa! Oh yeh, I’m deffo a bit scared now, oooh… Maybe I’ll leave it…
I was controlled from halfway around the world, 3 days later and through the internet! So despite the disclaimer of it not being able to work through the internet at low resolution, it still worked on me.
My heart was racing and my breathing got incredibly shallow and fast as the film came on. I attempted to get up but my arms started shaking uncontrollably, and my legs couldn’t take the strain either. It wore off after a few minutes but it was the most bizarre feeling I’ve ever experienced.
I can understand how a bit of it was done and I noticed things along the way, but the end result was still incredible! The power of suggestion, the power of Derren and the power of having international fans feverishly scampering to keep up through the magic of the interweb!
Thanks muchly!
Great show, i felt heavy and relaxed during the film, but was able to stand up just fine afterwards.
Dont care if it was ‘meant’ to work, or all a big trick to see if people will do what he says, but it makes great TV! lol!
Didn’t stick, but felt really nauseous from just before the adverts (before the film) until the end of the programme. Odd!
I didn’t get stuck the first time i watched the video. I had to watch it about four times until i got stuck and when i did it was one of the weirdest experiences ive ever had. THANKS DERREN!!
Hey Derren, are you going to do a 3rd season for trick or treat
I allowed myself to become gullible the second time and it worked.. its just a matter of flicking that switch on or off.
I could stand up, but my legs felt like jelly and I had to sit down again.
And did anyone notice the blink-and-you-miss-it image of a man tied to a chair?
It occured many times before the film and I saw it once straight after.
I didn’t get stuck but my legs and hands felt incredibly heavy and when i stood up my legs felt weak and kept shaking for about 20 mins. It didn’t work on anyone at my school so they all say im full of shit lol which is annoying! I was really tired when i watched it as well (it was recorded and i watched it late) so could that have mad me more succeptible.
P.S my mum got really scared she was gonna get stuck so started to read the paper as the tape started that kinda distracted me maybe thats what stopped me from getting completely stuck :S
I was totally paralysed for about two minutes after the end of the video. I could just about breathe and started to panic a little. Then I said something to myself like “I’m really stuck!” and I think that snapped me out of it. I was very VERY aware that there was nothing keeping me stuck and fully believed that I was doing it willfully but just could not move!! Very weird – another great stunt from the genius of suggestion. Thanks for keeping us all entertained, Derren!
I didn’t stick, although I kind of wanted to. I’d seen the ‘stuck to the chair’ effect in several recorded stage sets back when Paul Daniels used to do a suggestion/hypnotism segment to his act, and I always wondered how it would feel.
Oh well.
I think perhaps I was thinking too hard, trying to read distortions in the line pattern on the premise that there may be words hidden in it.
You must really hate people like me.
I didn’t stick but I did feel very odd… kinda heavy and jelly like. In fact, the same feeling you get when you sit on your own foot (or any other extremity) for too long.
I also felt really quite guilty that I wasn’t stuck…sort of that butterfly feeling you get as a kid when you know you’re doing something you shouldn’t….very odd indeed.
I didn’t get stuck on Friday night, and since then i’ve watched it again and again on 4od (tv version) about 6 times in total to no effect, kind of gutted about it really.
Aww thank god, finally i thought id never get off my sofa!! Seriously I was sat in my living room with my husband and two friends who are complete sceptics about anything Derren does and when I could not get off the couch they did’nt believe me saying that I was only “acting” that way because I love Derren’s work,I swear I was STUCK! I do admit to the fact that I am a huge fan and am currently reading everything and anything I can get my hands on that is to do with magic, NLP, hypnosis and suggestion. I would love to get a copy of Derren’s earlier books; Pure Effect and Absolute Magic but unfortunately they are out of print and due to Derren’s success (thanks for that!) they can only be bought from certain sites and cost on average £200 a book! Drren if you are reading this please help!!
No I didn’t stick, but I felt a heavy weight in the bottom half of my body and I found it difficult to breath. Afterwards I stood up and I was shaking and felt really emotional it was very scary. I was disappointed that I didn’t stick but it definately affected me.
It’s really hard to allow yourself to let go. It’s a new and weird experience to drop like lead into a relaxed state and the giggles and panic set in to prevent you ‘getting there’. I like the fact that Friday’s show has given lots of people the chance to relax for a good ten minutes for once in their v busy lives. 🙂
Interestingly, this forum has a similar text box to another, saying that I would guess the odds based on that forum using the same code as this being… interesting. Derren, you are my hero. I didn’t stick, only because I knew I didn’t have to. Amusingly, I would imagine the profits on hiring uni students to hang around cinemas drinking coke outside and to stand in the cue would be greater than the costs (if you profited from selling such items in situ).
I wonder how many people spent time freezing the frames to find the man in the chair- because in some kind of way, you made them do it… 😉 keep it up! It really is magic!
Help, I am still stuck. I’m hungry, worried, upset and I have excreted many times. I can’t believe the mess.
The only parts of my body that I could move were my toes and my arms. Really freaked me out, felt like I was really relaxed (physically) I couldn’t even tense my stomach muscles and no one else in my house was affected. I almost panicked but it has put me off wanting to be hypnotised, really didn’t like the lack of control. Although I know it’s all psychological. I’ve been to your live show and didn’t get affected by any film images etc so totally took me by surprise – you are the devil! or god? not sure which x
I was stuck! It felt really weird though, my legs were really heavy and there was a huge pressure on my lower body. I found that my arms were okay though. Ahha, I could get up after a few minutes, so it was all good in the enddd.
You keep coming up in all of our conversations aroudn the place too. “Did you stick?” “YES!” “Awesome!” …and so on.
Really looking forward to your show tonight, Derren 🙂
I would say keep up the good work. But one: it would sound stupid. And two: I know you will anyway. 😉
Nope didn’t get stuck… neither did anyone I know 🙁 Did spot all the flashed images though (person bound to chair) and all the positive suggestion (you are “sensitive”, “bright” and “talented” if you get stuck… suggesting that if anyone really did get stuck it was most probably a desperate need for affirmation… which is a bit sad really!
I picked the card he wanted me to pick and I picked the giraffe aswell:O Well freaky Good shtuff Derren x
Hi Derren
My 15 year old daughter and I watched this show.
When you started the short film, we both burst out laughing and couldn’t stop for ages,
has anyone else had this reaction?
Then, we were both stuck fast!
Enjoyed it immensely, thanks
I didn’t get stuck but I as soon as the video stopped my whole body began to shake.
I was really fun though to try it out. I even watched it on channel 4+1 to experience it again!
You really inspire me Derren. Thanks :]
Hey Derren, WOW, never cease to amaze me, I was quite open to the idea and then freaked out when I was stuck to the chair. Watched on 4OD, on my own at first, went mad after getting stuck, then again with other ppl in the room and happened again, loving the feeling of the trance, and not sure about others but had uncontrollable happy thoughts in my head for about 15-20 mins, very very strange just laughing out loud for no reason. Like the way u set the trance half way thru the show and then again just before the film, put me in a nice happy place!
What a legend, look forward to the casino on friday.
I didn’t get stuck but ever since the show my sense of taste has disappeared and I’m really worried it might be irreversable. 🙁 I hope it comes back at some point.
I got stuck and I wasn’t even watching live I was watching it on 4OD. I went to stand up but my legs wouldn’t budge it felt like i didn’t have legs. The more I tried the more my muscles in my legs were hurting. I knew not to panic because I experienced it before when I auditioned for the events in wandsworth town through roehampton university. Everything you did at the audition worked on me. you even wanted me possibly for the show but what are the chances i missed all 3 phone calls sooo annoying hopefully you can reconsider me some time in the future especially everything you do doesn’t scare me I just feel confused and intrested it’s because when I look into your eyes I know I can trust you even though you could prob make me do anything but i don’t care i trust you.
i tried and i did it it is amazing
this was good i tried again it worked then again and again but next day tried did not work that is scary very scary.
happy halloween commin up
i love cameron smith he is sexy xxx
i love him to death
It would definately work for 20% of people, somnambulists. Not work for 20%. And possibly work on the rest.
Suggestion is a wonderful tool but no foolproof.
