Did you stick?
Well, there we go. Just got back.
I couldn’t say before the film that it wouldn’t work on all of you, as expectation really helps it work. Apologies if the film didn’t work on you, and congrats if it did. We had about 50, 000 calls come in on the night. Even though clearly some of those 50k wouldn’t have stuck and were just phoning to mention their genitals, those clever people who understand how to calculate viewing figures (that’s done, amazingly, from a group of only 1000 people with special buttons on their TVs) and the like reckon that we are probably looking at about 10 times that number in terms of people actually affected. So perhaps 1/2 a million of you were affected – hopefully we’ll get a better sense of how many in the days to come. I say round it up to a BILLION though – it has a nice ring to it. But ask around, you should all know someone who it worked on (if it didn’t work on you).
Two people stuck in the TV gallery too, which was a cheap laugh for all of us.
Thank you so much for watching, I hope you enjoyed the show. Next week, pen and paper ready please.
x
Didn’t get stuck, neither didn’t my mum, brother or uncle or the Facebook people I’ve spoken to. Really want to talk to someone who was royally glued. My legs and heart felt very weird during the film but I had no lasting effects afterwards.
I’ve always been a massive fan of your work and have watched and read and been captivated by everything, but always been under the impression it probably won’t work on me, but would never have the chance to find out. So thankyou for a wonderful, somewhat startling, but interesting experience! I really concentrated, and found my head to be heavy and lolling back (no headrest), it took two attempts to get up after thirty or so seconds of an odd sensation. I know it was purely psychological, but my thighs were really very heavy and I felt like I couldn’t step forward when I finally stood up. So just stood on the spot for a while. I felt a bit silly, like it shouldn’t work – always assumed I wouldn’t be open to suggestion, “must be the weaker willed/easily swayed etc”..showed me! Tnx again 😀
Really enjoyed this week’s show. I watched with me Ma although neither of us got stuck. Determined to try again, I watched on +1 afterwards in a different chair, closer to the screen and with the lights off…still now’t.
I do feel that the film affected me, though, even if it just made me feel a little queazy…perhaps I’m not as open to suggestion as I thought I was. =(
PS: When are you going to write a new book? I finished the last one ages ago!
I got stuck, could move my back off the chair but as soon as I try to push my legs off the ground i just couldn’t, brain wouldn’t let me.
I really wanted it to work but it didn’t on me or my sister.
I even watched it on +1 just in case I did it wrong the first time. The second time I felt weird but got up anyway
i didn’t stick but i felt wierd, i liked how it said “stuck” on the iphone application in the advert just before you showed the video and there were loads of sofa adverts, sneaky
Wasnt stuck to my seat, unfortunately.
felt incredibly drowzy and was laughing quite a bit aswell. felt like i was stoned or something of that nature, since i have clearly never taken drugs so i wouldnt know! 🙂
Didn’t stick. But think I might have been listening too hard to the actual words you were using Derren. Very sneaky….
Derren you’re amazing. I wasn’t stuck on my sofa but when I stood up I had tomorrows lottery numbers printed on my arse.!!
Didn’t work on me but I feel soooooooooooooooooooooo relaxed now and have no energy, arms are really heavy. So probably get e really good nights sleep for once, if so thanks Derren!!
unfortunately i dint stick 🙁 was very nervous so couldnt concentrate properly.. ur amazing at what 2 do.. lookin forward 2 next weeks antics xx
I was sure it wouldn’t work on me. And even after I watched the fil
I was sure I could get up. But I coudnt. Lasted about 20 seconds. Panicked at one point, felt like someone was holding my hips down. Very impressed, clever stuff.
My legs and stomach were tingling but i could stand up in the end…
Derren Thanks doing the interactive experiment. Cant believe it worked on me. My feet was stuck. Really weird sensation. Also just before the video started my head was heavy and started leaning back. Thanks again Derren!
Urm… Not sure I was stuck exactly, but the first time I was in fits of giggles, and I am not the giggly type! I just couldn’t stop, even when the programme ended, if I thought of the lines, I just started giggling again! But it’s stopped now… weird…
Gutted that I never stuck, I really wanted to believe in it. Tried watching again in the dark but still nothing! Hope I find someone that it worked on. Great show anyways
when i was watching the film i gradually started to feel heavy, and when it stopped i couldn’t stand up! i could lean forward and move my arms, but my legs were pretty much dead and i couldn’t bend my knees or put pressure on my feet. an extremely weird sensation, but i thoroughly enjoyed the programme and congratulate Derren on his work. looking forward to more!
Derren.. really?!
I love you, really I do, though I am disappointed that no-one I know got stuck. Not the end of the world, still a great show.. apart from one thing.
Why was the 295 ticket guy, Joe or whatever, wearing a mic pack?! If you’re going to use a stooge, then at least make it a little less obvious. Quite a few people noticed, you never handed him one on the way to the stage, so it’s obvious he was already mic’ed up. The only reason for that would be is if he was already involved in the show. This makes me a sad panda 🙁
Just my arms got stuck!
Worked for me! Honestly never expected it to work but it worked! I could lean forwards but whenever I tried to get up I felt so heavy and just had to sit down again!
Hey,
I didn’t stick, but thats probably because of the distractions (my brother saying he hopes you play Full metal jacket as the film)
But I have recorded it and will watch later in better conditions 🙂
Keep up the good work
I honestly didn’t believe that i would be responsive to this kind of thing but I really wanted it to work and as I was watching the clip, I felt ok. Then when told to try to get up I couldn’t. I kept trying and each time, although funny at first, i started to get a bit worried. I wasn’t sure I would ever get back out of my chair. I felt real heavy and it’s true that the more you struggle the harder it is to get up.
That was some real clever stuff, thanks for the experience and the panic haha
no, it didnt work for me or any of my family. shame really.
btw were the two pictures of the person stuck to the chair before and after the video supposed to be recognisable?
😀 : D 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
I just posted a voice blog that I made during the experiment! Sadly tho it did not work on me!
I didn’t stick, but I’ve since gone on to Facebook and a few of my friends seem to have stuck good and proper! I did feel a bit heavy in my legs and the film definitely had some effect – kind of tingly in my stomach, but that may have been nerves! Hehe. Either way you’re a genius. Fascinating stuff.
I didnt stick completely, I just felt like my shoulders were weighed down and my feet were tied to lead weights and it was just very wierd – Thanks Mr. B. x x
Not for me, but my other half dead, jealous now!
*did
I got stuck but not at first.
At first I didn’t stick and I was pretty gutted but once I had got up and put the phone down, I sat back down and about a minute later I tried to get up for a drink and discovered I couldn’t. 🙂
Mum thought I was puttin it on though but my butt was good and stucktomysofa.com!!!! I also saw loads of rectangles in the video but that probably means my eyes are a bit funky
The giddiness and intense heartbeat were definetely very strong. But that could just be my normal reaction to Derren.
It didn’t work on me but I did see the pics that flashed up. I really enjoyed the show though as I enjoy all your shows. The handsome bearded man was very pleasing to my eyes too – OH! That was you! ;-D
I got my little sister to film me, and watching it back I had some movements, but I’d be half standing then fall back – after a couple or mins my mum managed to pull me up. If you want to watch the video, add me on facebook – Sophie Louise Ray – and you can see it lol x
It worked for me, watched it on +1 but it didnt work cos i wasnt concentrating. loved it and cant wait for next weeks show, husband tried it and it didnt work therefor he thought i was lying Blah on him!
my arms and legs got heavy and stiff and my bum was completely stuck to the chair. Amazing feeling really as i didn’t think it was going to work.
Really starting to freak me out now Mr.Derren Brown!
I didn’t stick as dramaticlly as some people but i did have this overwhelming urge NOT to get up when I tried and I had to force myself to do so….
I am sad that I’m not susceptible =[
Good show, your voice sounded kinda hot when you were a tramp!
Didn’t get stuck to my sofa but am going to try it when I get back to my mum’s with a bigger TV and less distractions!! Look fwd to next week’s show x
I got stuck for two minutes, and then i tried to stand up again and managed, but felt really heavy and had to sit back down, i felt light headed afterwards, i think you should of banned children from seeing this, it scared the living daylights out of me even though i’m 14. and the man who said like green chair, blue pen, and 312, i got all those things rightt. i was so freaked outt, i really need to see you live now!
I didn’t stick to my chair and thought I had no side effects…but just a few minutes after the show I have started to have panic attacks, my whole body feels heavy and I feel faint. Perhaps sleep deprived mothers were not supposed to watch it either.
I feel utterly miserable now.
Felt dizzy at the start, then couldnt take my eyes off the film, could almost stand up but knees were too weak and elbows wouldnt move from the position I’d placed my arms in…..did get a bit emotional but had my mum to keep me calm lol quite an interesting experience 🙂
x
That was the weirdest experience of my life. The thing that got me first was when my right arm started moving up my leg without me controlling it. I knew it was happening but I couldn’t stop it. I ended up with my arm raised head height for the whole time. Then when he said to try and stand up I couldn’t get up at all. My feet felt like they were slipping on the floor. I really panicked. I just cannot believe that it worked. And as soon as he released it I was able to stand up. Honestly i am still freaked out by this. Derren you really are good!
with the people bit, number 18 was the tallest so maybe he stood out more…
me and my mum spotted the guraffe prints everywhere right away… so we kinda knew what she was going to pick,,, but how you got frank i dont know! I would have said steve,,, and number 12 for the people thingy…
I felt lik crying through that video, i didn’t stick but i was laughing so much people must have thought i was mad!!
Can’t wait for next week!!!!
I didnt stick but I still believe you are an absolute genius Derren!
Keep up the good work, you are absolutely amazing.
I’ll keep trying to get stuck 😀
Unfortunately i didnt stick. but i did experience a werid feeling in my tummy while watching it like a nervous, anxious feeling its hard to describe.
19 sorry not 18
Yes it worked on me.
It was starting to walk on me before the break, i wanted to get up to get something but I didnt, i wasnt really aware of it till after.
i could move my arms, back and feet, but rest of me was stuck, was very scary yet extremly amazing!!
Didn’t stick…best mate did though and all i could do was laugh through her panic…..for some reason i just couldn’t stop laughing at her when i guess i should hev given her some kind words of ‘don’t worry it will al be ok.’
I did however get very distracted by Wall-E making a wonderful appearence…hands up who spotted him.
i felt a bit heavy standing up, but other than that…still, i liked it.it was more sort of peaceful than i thought it would be…
🙂
Sadly unstuck. I did, however, immensely enjoy the ‘subliminal’ image of Derren tied to a chair with rope that flashed up after the film. What ever gets you through the day, Derren.
Lovely show as always xx
I recorded myself on webcam during the experiment.
During the video i rarely blinked, i was so focused. The first time i did this i did try to ‘fight it’ (like you said – what ever ‘it’ is) So the second time i was more relaxed, and that time i was actually glued, even if it were for 3 or 4 seconds. I pulled myself out with force, but even after that my knees and shoulders started to sink and felt the need to sit down constantly.
I must say though, the reaction on my face in the video, is rather amusing. =)
