Did you stick?
Well, there we go. Just got back.
I couldn’t say before the film that it wouldn’t work on all of you, as expectation really helps it work. Apologies if the film didn’t work on you, and congrats if it did. We had about 50, 000 calls come in on the night. Even though clearly some of those 50k wouldn’t have stuck and were just phoning to mention their genitals, those clever people who understand how to calculate viewing figures (that’s done, amazingly, from a group of only 1000 people with special buttons on their TVs) and the like reckon that we are probably looking at about 10 times that number in terms of people actually affected. So perhaps 1/2 a million of you were affected – hopefully we’ll get a better sense of how many in the days to come. I say round it up to a BILLION though – it has a nice ring to it. But ask around, you should all know someone who it worked on (if it didn’t work on you).
Two people stuck in the TV gallery too, which was a cheap laugh for all of us.
Thank you so much for watching, I hope you enjoyed the show. Next week, pen and paper ready please.
x
I think I had a slight break down in watching this, I felt really upset and cried inexplicably for a few minutes (though maybe that was just because I wanted it to work so badly, eh?). Another superb show though,
Thankyou Derren x
I didn’t stick but a friend of mine did…all I felt was a crazy light headed feeling which took well over an hour to wear off.
I had my phone sitting on my lap ready to call out of the slight hope it would work, but also highly doubted it would work.
When I discovered, truely to my amazement that I couldn’t stand up, I went to call the number and realised I couldn’t move any single part of my body and was totally fixated on the TV screen until the bleep ended and I found I had movement.
It’s now 11:28PM and I’ve still not regained full movement of my body and I’m still numb and tingely, also a little dizzy and shakey.
Such an inscane, yet terrifying experience!
It started with my arms. It felt like pins and needles. My friends and mother were laughing because it didn’t work on them, but I kept saying “My arms feel really weird”. I managed to move my arms after a little while, but it wasn’t until the second “Lean forward” went up that I actually felt able to move again. My friends had tried to pull me up and failed and they were obviously laughing at me =P
Just me that didn’t really appreciate the whole “Stay calm” thing? That was just to kill time while they took calls. Not nice. My legs felt all trembly and weird for about half an hour after.
iv bin an avid fan 4 years and was a bit dissapointed it didnt work on me but still believe it works i would love to take part in some of derrens stuff just to prove alot of people especially my brother wrong about derren. keep it up derren
cheers derren u really helped me out. and u are an influcence for the new generation. although i didnt get stuck cause i was scared lol. i did feel very fuzzy and drowzy, it might just be me cause im tired who knows (probaly you). 🙂
Didn’t get completely stuck but felt like someone was pushing down really hard on my shoulders. Went all tingly too and only felt better after the blue screen. What happened to the lovely guy who gave his shoes away? he was great, sweet guy.
So looking forward to next week. Big love <3 xx
I didn’t stick… not sure whether I’m proud or disappointed by that.
Please to explain the accent please.
Was that supposed to be Irish? If so, why?
Derren, I know that Channel 4 are paying you over a £1,000,000 per show and that is the real reason you do these things. It probably never enters your mind that entertaining people is part of the broadcasters charter and I feel its time that someone made this perfectly clear to you so brace yourself…
You are creating TV that is hugely enjoyable and are making me the viewer feel that I am part of something bigger than me, my TV set and the settee.
However for about 8 minutes this evening my settee and I forged a relationship that will stay with me the rest of my life. So thank you, thank you, thank you.
Oh, forgot to mention …I have bought tickets to come see you on April 1st in Edinburgh… making you even richer… but you are worth every single penny Sir.
Didnt stick but did feel a bit out of it.Might have helped if my son had not picked that time to be on facebook chat-tap tap tap-so very helpful!Daughter said she felt very heavy legged.A great show x
“Even though clearly some of those 50k wouldn’t have stuck and were just phoning to mention their genitals” – I literally laughed my ass off. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.
Hold up, one of them was going to mention the “New World Order”. 😉
well it didnt work the 1st time “live”… But sort of worked 2nd time round on the +1 channel.i could move my arms and lean forward but when it came to making the conscious effort to stand up i could nt.but not sure if that was a real effect from the film or was my head….great piece of tv.would love if there was a clear outcome so i could know for sure.xoxo
I was working tonight so i taped the show. will that have the same affect as if watching it alive when i watch it tonight or tomorrow??
Derren Brown, you are by far the most intelligent, brilliant man of this pcychologic century! I really admire you…alot!!!
thxxxxx
It worked first time, i couldn’t move my legs or my arms, i felt paralysed. I will admit that i did panic, get quite upset, and wanted it to stop. Relived to be able to stand up although still feel incrediably heavy now, the tops of my thighs are worst. Just wondering if it has anything to do with high frequencies? – As i can hear some dog whisles.
Excellent work mr brown! My hands stuck firmly to my knees! Although my daughter didn’t believe me it took a massive effort just to lift my hands a half inch off my kneed. Looking forwRd to next weeks show
It didn’t work for me but it did for 2 people I know. I saw the flashes before the film. Saw the giraffe images as she went round the toy shop. Possibly because in the adverts before the show, she was near a giraffe.
Not sofa-sticking for me – relieved and gutted!
I didnt get stuck at all but watched it twice and both times I couldnt stop laughing… not sure why…
I began to feel pins and needles in my hands and legs and my legs became so heavy, but then the whirly image was making me feel a little queesy so i looked away, if i hadn’t i really think i would have stuck.
Just booked my tickets to see you next year, cannot wait.
Great show! I didnt get stuck, however i could feel it having an effect, (pins and needles in arms legs)similar to the one i experienced when i watched your live show in bournemouth when you played the sound(i got uncontrollable jolts of movement), in which i did actually stand up.
I think it may have a greater effect rate if the video was played for longer, as i could feel myself being “taken in” as such. However, i wouldnt know the consequences, so a constant replay on sky+ would be a nono for me haha.
I stuck, although my younger brother didn’t. Was a really bizarre feeling, my arms felt like absolute dead weights and my legs just wouldn’t respond to any command i gave them. Could have been quite a scary experience but knowing that Derren was behind it all was quite a comforting factor and made it a rather special and somewhat pleasurable experience knowing that i had been involved in such an experiment. Great work Derren, can’t wait to see what you have in store for us next week!!!
Didn’t stick but did get the giggles. A friend’s friend got stuck and they played it to her mum after and she stuck too. Genetically predisposed?
I didn’t stick, but my head did start turning to the right involuntarily.
I thought it was extremely interesting tonight Derren, keep up the good work!
Can’t wait for next week ^_^
watched again on +1. Stuck again. Same amount, exactly the same sensations. Beyond creepy.
It didn’t work for me in terms of actually getting stuck. I made sure I was in a quiet and dark room to fully absorb the video and I did get quite nervous just before the video started which seemed to increase my heart rate. However, about halfway through the video my eyes started to blink more rapidly (though maybe that was because I was staring intently at the screen trying not to blink, I don’t know). I was able to get up afterwards, but my legs did feel quite heavy when I walked.
So whilst it didn’t work on me like it did others it was certainly an interesting experience and the feelings I did feel during and after the video. Overall it was a fun experiment to take part in.
I got stuck! Couldn’t move my arms properly either!! Well done you!!! 😀 x
I didnt get stuck to the chair but had a weird feeling in my legs and back as if something was pushing me down.
freaked ryt out!!watched on c4 couldn’t move from knees down, felt v calm tho, but thought I was just losin plot so tried again on +1 this time paying more heed to the hidden images as I knew they were there but didn’t quite see them properly first time. Second time round pinned from neck down, felt more scared and panicky. Took me twenty mins to fully snap out of it. :-S hypnosis?
Not physically, but mentally I didn’t want to get up or even move an inch. Felt heaviness briefly.
dear derren that was really really cool i dident stick to the sofa but when got up i like got stuck to almost anything else (thank god there were no knives lol) but yeah it was kinda wierd i like got pins and needles in my hands and then my shoulders started to tighten. again soo cool and i should be getting your book tomorrow thanks for being so crazy!!!!!
I didn’t get stuck but I’m sure the whole chair thing was misdirection on Derren’s part .
My theory is that the real mind control was going on when words and phrases appeared on the screen on varying colour backgrounds afterwards as Derren chatted to people on the phone in the background .A classic subliminal hypnotic process.Didn’t anybody else find this odd and OUT OF PLACE?
When i watched these and thinking back to the tramp(Derren ) being given money and people being generous too him I felt very generous ,warm and accepting of strangers……weird i know but I think the whole stuck to the chair thing is 100% misdirection and the real basis of the whole show was to get people to try and be less judgemental of others ,be more accepting and more friendly to strangers
anybody?
Amazing!
I didn’t get stuck although i did get pins and needles in my legs and feet.
when i got up the first time i fell to the ground
i was there for about 5 minutes then i started crying for some reason
weird stuff
but amazing and mind blowing!!
omg my arms went numb and felt really heavy
didnt affect my family though
I didn’t stick nor did my mom but it was still brilliant to watch!!
oh yeah i knoticed that the lil bleep that came up was tyed 2 the chear why was there any need for this???
I found the reaction to it REALLY amusing. Mainly because quite a lot of people just end up saying “He must be a witch. It’s magic” Yeah…Of course it is.
Tried it. Didn’t work. Why? Because I realised the very obvious “secrets” to the trick.
Still good though. Might start trying out PWA.
yes my thighs were stuck! cant believe it happened. amazing!
Ha ha ha! Just watched the repeat with my other half and both of us found our arms got really heavy. We felt like we just wanted to sit there (like it would be too much effort to stand up). My elbows were stuck to my sides. I couldn’t stop laughing. At least I got some response this time.
Can’t wait for next week.
Didnt work for me or my friend which sucks >.< However felt very dizzy and heavy whilst watching the thing. Maybe a longer dosage of watching would have stuck us but who knows. Also spotted 4 subliminals. 2 of the man tied up in a seat, onw blue flash and one white flash. not seeing anything on them though. Anyways, love the series so far and cant wait to see next weeks ^^
Wow, what a busy blog, I wonder if the Channel 4 site got swamped again…
No sticking in this household I’m afraid, although we were streaming it off the net as we don’t have channel 4 (the evil BBC antenna blocks the signal)
never mind
On to the next show
I didn’t stick unfortunately. I had a rush of heat to my limbs. Started getting clamy and sweaty palms. Although my legs, hands and posterior did feel heavy, I did not stick to my chair.
didnt work on me either…even if it was 1/2 a million people that it DID work on, thats a very small proportion of the people who saw this programme.
i think…in a way…uv done a study thats showed hypnosis DOESN’T work which goes against what i, and you Derren, believe!
it genuinely worked brilliantly on me, me and my friends decided to make a night out of it, we had too watch it twice but it finally worked, first time 0/7 were affected but they of had something to do with uncontrollable giggles coming from some members of the party, the second time however, two of us, me and my friend ben were effected. As soon as derren started speaking i started to feel really, really tired and my head lolled back in the chair, it was quite painful but i couldn’t move it, it was just hanging backwards, then I got pins and needles in my legs and then they went all warm and then i couldn’t do anything, i could talk, and move my eyes but nothing else, terryfying but amazing!
derren u should try and make people save the world now let tha be a lil task 4 u save ths planet
Stuck like glue to the couch and could not stop laughing was excellent, could not feel my legs and butt, Did nto work ont he husband though lol Bravo!
Really really wanted this to work, tried to make myself as susceptible as possible but no joy. *sobs*
Even tried a repeat viewing on the plus one in a darkened room, and on a chair more similar to your studio test subjects’ but still no joy.
And I was so looking forwards to feeling mentally fiddled with and helpless under your power too! :~(
Still, nevermind. Fab show nonetheless my good man.
I didn’t stick 🙁 but I did spot a smudge on my tv when it came on an it pure took my attention haha!
Derren is a trending topic on twitter, look see!
Felt a bit strange. Vision went a bit grey round the edges. However, was disappointed that I didn’t stick! I reckon it’s down to believing it will happen. I hoped it would, but believed that it wouldn’t on the grounds that I’m not creative / imaginative – qualities that I think usually complement hypnotism/suggestion. Highly entertaining though – followed Derren’s wizardry for years and I’m continually amazed!
However, for all of his talents, hypnotising someone like me, is something I do not think he is capable of!
I did get stuck but in a different way to everyone else. For a few seconds after the video I was completely paralysed, I couldn’t move anything but my eyes. Everyone else seems to talk of a heavy feeling or being held down and this is what happened to the people in the audience, but I just felt almost like I’d forgotten how to make my limbs move.
Did anyone else have my experience?
