Did you stick?
Well, there we go. Just got back.
I couldn’t say before the film that it wouldn’t work on all of you, as expectation really helps it work. Apologies if the film didn’t work on you, and congrats if it did. We had about 50, 000 calls come in on the night. Even though clearly some of those 50k wouldn’t have stuck and were just phoning to mention their genitals, those clever people who understand how to calculate viewing figures (that’s done, amazingly, from a group of only 1000 people with special buttons on their TVs) and the like reckon that we are probably looking at about 10 times that number in terms of people actually affected. So perhaps 1/2 a million of you were affected – hopefully we’ll get a better sense of how many in the days to come. I say round it up to a BILLION though – it has a nice ring to it. But ask around, you should all know someone who it worked on (if it didn’t work on you).
Two people stuck in the TV gallery too, which was a cheap laugh for all of us.
Thank you so much for watching, I hope you enjoyed the show. Next week, pen and paper ready please.
x
i got stuck every time, my eyes were flooding with water, but was also laughing at the same time, could barely feel anything from just above the knee down
Got stuck for a few minutes but then got up. Arms and legs still feel shakey from it
great stuff Derren
Unfortunately, since I dont live in Britain, I had to download the show through the internet. I got the feeling at first, it was nothing physical, it was more like my mind kept telling me to stay seated and I was in an odd state of mind. My eyes became somewhate watery and I squinched my eyes several times as if something was just being transferred into my mind. It was sort of as if I told myself to try to stand up but a deep part of myself just didnt want to get out. Eventually after a while, although before the official Derren’s release I was able to get up and move around. The flashing of the blue, green and red ovals and eye-similar figures on the screen on the audience when Derren was doing the 295 stunt also made me feel odd and make my eyes squinch.
however, was just thinking that maybe i was focusing too much on the tv and not focusing on my actual body parts….legs got a bit shaky but that was all :)xxxx
Amazing! Felt like my body was paralyzed, very heavy but not uncomfortable. Watched it twice, second time was more powerful. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience, thankyou Derren, you are marvelous! Looking forward to next week *(^_^)*
~x*X*x~
Great show Derren. This type of stuff fasinates me. I didn’t stick unfortunately however the GF did. Massively Funny watching her wiggle around giggling to herself!
Keep up the amazing work
Chris
Wow – what a difference 20 minutes can make. I’d like to retract my earlier post; Derren Brown is a genius. I’ve just realised that I’m looking at the whole show from the wrong viewpoint!
The fact that persuasion is not guaranteed doesn’t invalidate the effects, because the effects aren’t the effect – it is our response to them, along with the glimpses of the methods allegedly involved, that is subject to persuasion. The suggestive film wasn’t the swirly lines, it was the series of films leading up to it, along with the “how I made her think giraffe” type discussion that subtly veer our expectations in his abilities. The audience’s response is proof that the meta-effect has worked, and my reaction is proof I was completely misdirected!
I say in all earnest, well done sir.
omg i never thought it would work. i have always been able to see how and when you do things and thought i was not as impressional as other ppl. I didnt beleive it would work on me and was very freaked out when my thighs woudn’t carry my weight to get up out of my chair. i’m still freaked out now and wondering if the reason why i love you so much is because you have programed me to.. Arrrrr!!!
Hi Derren. Great show! Really enjoyed it, especially the guy giving up his shoes lol.
No sticking for me but I know why that was 🙁
Initially there was a…..’sensation’ so to speak but then I thought back to the “you can’t drop the pen” test (I’m sure you must have heard of it as it is fairly entry level as far as your field goes). As it turns out; the first time I couldn’t drop the pen, second time I could and the same applied to simply standing up.
If only I had never been to those damn classes teaching about hypnosis, I would have been stuck for sure.
Keep up the good work. Again, excellent show!!! 🙂
Just read the posts, especially love the ones written by sceptics who are complaining that they didn’t get stuck. Means that secretly they actually thought Derren Brown really could stick everyone in Britain to their chairs 🙂 In fact I can’t wait to find out the viewing figures for the show as it means that all those people did, to some extent, believe DB would do it otherwise what would be the point of watching?! Same goes for his Lottery Event – why watch it if you think he is just guessing like everyone else? Btw I loved the ending of the Lottery Event it was purposefully meant to keep us wondering and was hilarious –
‘We might have done this. But that would be illegal. So we didn’t.’ 🙂
Oh and for the record, I did think giraffe but didn’t get stuck. Not too susceptible then!
Hi Derren,
I was skeptic to this prior to watching, although a huge fan of yours! when the video played, there was three of us in the room, I was the only one of the three which stuck, I was also the only one which could see horizontal lines on the white screen out of the three of us. To the others it was just a blank screen with music. But I started feeling like I was sinking towards the floor through the chair. I was able to move my back off the chair but I just couldnt get off my butt at all, even when trying to use my arms to lift myself.
I took the batteries out of the remote because they wanted me to stay stuck.
I was ony freed from this when the blue screen was shown and I was able to stand.
Excellent !!!!
Looking forward to March!
im sorry to say derren, but those flashing images of someone sittting down terrified me, and i cant sleep
no 🙁 but i wanted to be, lol i dont think you said to try to sit as straight to the tv as possible lol as i was watching head side on, but my gf wasn’t you got her stuck lol
Did not work for me and that was in a quiet dark room, although my legs felt really heavy after watching it.
I am going to ask my friends tomorrow if it worked on them.
Cant wait for next week!
I didn’t get stuck. I really wanted it to work and got abit excited/nervous just before it started. I did see the flash of the man tied to a chair quite clearly like 4/5 times during the show, maybe it didn’t work because i was aware of it? I also got the feeling like the bit where you were talking before the film was very important to getting stuck too.
Nah! Didn’t work for me, although I was watching a recording after spending the night down the pub so the fact I was half cut may have had something to do with it. Also, I am not a weak minded fool so Jedi mind tricks do not work on me. Very entertaining though.
I’d only had 4 hours sleep the night before and was quite tired so was expecting it to work quite well, but it didn’t. The show was great though, loved all of it, especially the toy store, and tramp parts. Keep it up – Great 🙂
Unfortunately due to a rather busy week I fell asleep whilst watching on C4+1. I went to bed before the end. Woke up at about 3am in a panic as I believed I couldn’t get out of bed! Luckily I had seen the very end message of the original show so I managed eventually to persuade myself that I could move. A- MAZ-ING
Was great fun – felt like one of those suction rides you get at the fair. x
No sticking for us last night, but was it meant to work on 4+1? We also didn’t get to see the whole show and I have a feeling you were meant to have seen the whole thing. Too bad, my hubby and I really wanted it to work but to did have my mum shouting “fake” at you into the tv screen. How little she knows!!! Well done!
I could’nt watch – got scared!
It’s his eyes – before they played the movie he was drawing you in and it made me feel far too uncomfortable
I watched it again on the other 4 channel but again I had to turn away
Looking forward to his next stunt though – he is very cool!
I did get stuck from the lower part of my body. When I tried to get up I pushed up with my arms but the more I tried the more I got stuck. Great show can’t wait for next week.
I didnt stick but my legs and ares felt heavy and when i lent forward i felt as tho i had something attached to my back pulling me down.
havnt herd of any of my friends getting stuck yet but will keep asking
Me and my husband had been excited all week about seeing derrn’s show on friday. I was really geared up and wanted it to work so much, however, it did not work. It did not work on my husband either, and my husband is very, very easily influenced by suggestion.
One thing that did happen and I was wondering if Derren could comment is when I watched it although I didn’t stick the room seemed like it was fillinf with smoke whilst I concentrated on the film. What was that all about? Is that normal?
No sticking for me unfortunately. The more I think about it, the more I am sure that broadcasting standards (or whoever it is) would not allow a mad mind-fucker like you show something on TV that is basically mass hypnosis. So, I think everyone that got stuck to their chair did it because you put the suggestion in their heads, not because you showed a ostensibly white screen with an Aphex Twin sound track.
Am a massive DB fan, have seen you live more than once, have read the book more than once and have seen every TV programme. BUT, I don’t know, the last couple of shows have been disappointing. Not sure about the Top Gear audience format, and, well, the whole things seems too slick, too pre-conceived. Sorry.
Please don’t make my head explode with your mad skills.
I’m fragile.
I didn’t stick, nor did my mum, but as soon as the film came on I started giggling, which was quite odd, and i stopped when it finished. There wasnt anything amusing tho, and im not one of those people who laughs for no reason . W-E-I-R-D!
Also i would have picked the monkey lol the giraffe didnt look very cuddly
I didn’t stick. I wanted it to work. I know in the past I have been hypnotised so it should have worked. I guess the distractions and far from perfect conditions prevented it from working. Shame as I would have liked to be stuck in my favorite chair!
great show! i didnt stick but when the film started i felt like i was going to throw up! then i felt soooo heavy and relaxed! think it would have working better in a closed room like the others! no believes me either! xxx
It worked on me and it was really weird. It felt like my butt had turned to metal and the chair became a magnet. The more i tried to get up, the more stuck I became. I think (this is just my theory, may not be right, tell me if it isn’t) that were there was that warning at the beginning saying about subliminal messages and stuff, i was on the look out constantly for subliminal messages which meant my mind was more aware and took in more information without me realizing it.
By the way, i got the giraffe thing =]
unbelievable and strangely hypnotic experience that of being stuck solidly to the chair…
your words (much like a mantra) made me tense my muscles more – locking them into a fix, set position…
it was a beautiful experience, in the end I felt the attempt to get up as much as a pychological battle as what it was a hugely frustrating physical one.
Oh! my goodness I just loved the show….so many things that got me ‘thinking’ too.
I didn’t ‘stick’ but I enjoyed the build up etc. Loved the giraffe and love Hamleys. I still get a huge kick looking around that store. You were in there all night…lucky you.
The tramp impression was adorable. How strange that must have been when someone gave you his shoes….see…there are still some “beautiful people†in the world… way to go Mr B.
I didn’t work on me, I was fully open to the idea last night but I now am sceptical about the whole thing as nobody I’ve actually spoken to got stuck!!
I didn’t stick but my legs and shoulders did feel heavier. i thought i saw an outline of a man (like the ones on pedestrian crossings but black) behind the spinning lines in the video and he was moving around the screen. not sure what that was…
no I didn’t,
I was so disappointed. I had been looking forward to this all week and then I couldn’t do it. I must have focused too hard or not paid enough attention or something.
Congrats to all who did though, it’s pretty special. Of course lots of congratulations to you Derren, although the sequence with the you as the homeless guy made me cry! It was just so sad!
love
A
i got stuck !! it was really weird .. and i started freaking out and i started crying ! … i recorded myself with my digital camera too .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrSwRfLdBRY .. it was amazing though !!
cant wait til next week !!!!
Show was amazing and you managed to stick my left foot to the floor. I knew in my head I could move it if I really had to, but it just felt as though it really was stuck to the floor. Had my Husband rolling about laughing. Thanks for a great experience!
I didn’t stick Derren – but the rest of the show was so ace that i didn’t leave the sofa anyway:D very very excited for next week! xx
it was brilliant, derren … thankyou
Sat next to the wife and tried it, she got straight up and experienced nothing. I couldn’t move from my lower back to my thigh. Felt like someone was sitting on my lap.
My boyf could not get up. He kept laughing weirdly too. I couldnt relax enough so it didnt work but I watched 4+1 & my hands stuck to my legs!! My right hand finally released but my left felt stuck til the end!!! Mad x
Hi, it didnt work for me sadly but that could be because my sister was in the room with me and kept making me laugh! However, my legs went really stiff and heavy and my hands and feet were really tingling. It was a great show though and I have to say that the test with the green T-shirts with win and lose written on them, number 19 stood out to me more than any of the others.
I have nothing but respect for you Derren, you amaze me everytime I watch you.
I am still wondering why the main graphic to this page hasn’t been changed. All your chairs are belong to us? Surely it isn’t deliberate! lol
I didn’t want to get stuck and I didn’t. Just as well, as I had to go round my Mum’s and ring for an ambulance for her. I’d have been no help stuck to my sofa!
Didn’t believe I would get stuck, was surprised when I did. It felt as though I had no power in my arms to lift me off the chair
I really wanted to stick but to no avail – might have had something to do with the cat trying to get on my lap at the time though 🙂 Sorry to say I don’t know anyone it has worked on so far, I guess I will have to wait to get to work on Monday and see if anyone had the experience!!
Definitely stuck!
I had no control of my legs. It felt like the muscles had locked in the bent position and wouldn’t straighten. I managed to straighten my legs by lifting my feet off the floor. Then I could stand.
Watched the show last night and really wanted to get stuck but unfortunately I didn’t. However I found that my arms and legs felt very heavy. Derren speaking before the actual film had much more of an effect on me than the actual film – it felt very intense and quite bizarre. I have just booked to see him in March and am so excited! Can’t wait for next Friday now – Thanks Derren!
Hi Derren,
I watched the show, & as you were teling us what we should do, I felt over-whelmingly ill, my heart was beating so hard and I was almost in tears.I did all that you said but was mightily miffed when I could get up and walk around after the short film. So I sit back down, listen to the phonecalls, and the final credits roll. So I go to get up, and I couldn’t move. I was half thinking I was doing it to myself, but my thighs were just concrete and I started to panic! So this is after the show.It lasted for more than 3 minutes until I could finally get up.
Maybe not so odd, but certainly upsetting for a while!
Thanks for another great show 🙂 xx
I could move my back and arms after a few seconds, but I most certainly couldn’t move my lower half. Didn’t help I was sat on a rug… so I did manage to slide a bit!
Oh I hate that in I don’t live in the UK and wasn’t able to see the show in HD and live 🙁
But anyway, great show, as always! 🙂
